Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 29, 2018
Embassy Review : Had my interview today. Everyone was super helpful and nice. Arrived at US consulate at 7:10 am. Doors opened at 7:20 am. I was fifth in line. My interview was scheduled at 8:00 a.m. Once you enter, you check in, receive a handout with the order you are required to submit your documents in. Arranged documents and then took elevator to the 19th floor. I was called up and met with a kind woman who obtained and reviewed my documents one at a time. She entered some data and then told me that first step was complete and documents were all in order. I sat back down and waited to get called for my interview. I swore an oath and another nice lady asked me how my husband and I met, the first time he came to visit me and the longest I’ve ever stayed in the USA followed by a few standard questions about ever being denied entry etc. Once that was done, she handed me a sheet of paper and with a huge smile told me that I was approved. Only issue now, Canada Post is on strike and so the return of my passport with my stamped visa is uncertain I was done before 9:00 a.m. and did not spend more than 10 minutes at each window and with each person. The experience was pleasant and not intimidating at all.
Rating : Very Good

Hi! You had your interview the day before me (mine was Oct 30)... I'm wondering if you can tell me where you're at with receiving your passport back? Mine says "issued" but the link to the waybill is broken and I've heard they're not actually shipping via Canada Post - that we have to return to Montreal to pick up? What is happening with yours?

I opted to have a friend attend on my behalf in Montreal and pick it up for me. He then couriered it to me and I got it today. They should have sent you an email with various options for pick up. Try emailing the consultate or calling them! Good luck!

Thanks, that's helpful to know! I haven't received an email yet. What the person who is picking it up on your behalf need for proof of identity or permission to pick up?

The email received from the consulate and photo ID

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
