It’s official!!!
We’re moving to the Adjustment Of Status Board (AOS)!!!
We’re APPROVED!!! :banana:
First a brief intro for those of you that don’t know much about me. For those reading days/weeks or even months later… We had our interview on March 10 th, 2008 @ 6:00 am. We had a K-1/K-2 - Fiancé Visa Petition.
My SO has two boys from previous relationships, 12 and 7 year old. When I went to see her in October, 2007, we got pregnant!!! Right now… 5 ½ months pregnant. I came to DR to the interview March 5th, 2008. On the 6th, we went for an ultrasound and it’s a GIRL!!! Very happy about the news, because I have a boy (12) and a girl (10).
I want to share our successful interview account. I will try to give you as much detail as possible; I apologize ahead of time if it turns out to be a super long account… so here it is:
We stayed at the Marriott, just one block from the US Embassy. We checked in on Sunday, March 9th, 2008 @ 3:00 pm.
This morning, my SO and I, got up at 2:30 am, got ready and were in line by4:00 am. We were the on the 20th spot in line. We were brought to the front of the line... due to the pregnancy. They let us in the building around 6:45 am and were briefly separated to go through security; as others have said… women to the right, men to the left.
At 7:45 am we were called to Window #25 to give the required documentation (DS-156, DS-156K, DS-230, I-134, letter from my banking institution, letter from employer, taxes for 3 years. This process took 20 minutes, because Gri (Fiance) had to have a re-take of her pictures.
Gri was given a number and around 8:00 am was called to window #13 to get her fingerprints. This process lasted only 4 minutes.
Then, at 8:30 am we were called to window #21 for the interview.
My SO was sworn in and was asked the following questions:
1) Have you ever been married?
2) Where does she work?
3) What did I do at my present job?
4) If she had relatives in the USA?
5) Who was the baby’s father?
6) When and where did we meet?
This is when she asked to see MY passport, looked at the stamps and wrote down the dates on a little notebook.
I was asked the following questions:
1) Did I have relatives in the Dominican Republic?
2) What do I do at my present job?
3) How much do I get paid?
4) Her children’s age?
5) What are the names of the children’s dad?
She asked me If we met in the United States… I got nervous and said yes!. Then she asked me the same question in Spanish. Then she held up a picture (one that I sent in with the petition)… and asked me who was that?... it was her youngest son. She said it was very cute picture.
After that she told Gri, to sing one of the forms and said "You're approved!".
When we heard her say that… we were in shock, looked at each other hugged, kissed, tears of joy poured out and thanked the CO. Then asked her if it was possible for us to get the visa that same day, due to my SO’s condition. She said no, but told us that it wasn’t taking that long for it to be delivered… on the receipt it says “Estimated Delivery Date: 03/17/2008” (Saint Patrick’s Day… More luck heading our way!!!).
No “iffy” questions, no evidence… NOTHING!!!
She explained that my SO needs to go downstairs and pay the Domex fee of US$16 [RD$550, I paid it in Pesos], since Gri lives in Santiago.
This process took exactly 20 minutes.
We paid the Domex fee at 8:55 am and were out by 9:00 am. The lady at the Domex counter told us that it was possible for her to pick up the stamped passport/s at the Santiago location on Thursday.
Now we’re off to Santiago… and tonight it celebration night!!!
