Consulate Review: Sydney, Australia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 30, 2019
Embassy Review : I was a bundle of nerves for weeks thinking about my interview, but I got out of it a couple hours ago and am very excited to say I was approved! I had a little trouble finding the correct elevator to take to get to the consulate (the MLC Centre is HUGE), but a really kind maintenance(?) man lead me in the right direction. I was expecting the interview to take place in some kind of room, but it literally occurs in the waiting room! You speak with a CO behind a panel of glass and everyone sitting and waiting can witness it all. That was extremely surprising to me! Everyone at the consulate was nice, including the CO who interviewed me. I don’t quite remember all the questions asked, but there weren’t many and I was done in the same five-minute timeframe many other people have mentioned. Thank you, everyone here at VJ who helped make this a possibility for us!

Hi there! Where in Australia are you?

Hi! I’m in Melbourne!

Hi. I am in Canberra. How are you handling the wait?
Teacake on 2018-11-18 said:
I’ve been distracted with training for what could potentially be a new job, so I’ve actually been doing surprisingly well with the wait. Time is flying by lol. How about yourself?

Yeah ok. Not working atm so time is dragging out Where in the US are you going to?

Memphis, TN! I can see that we applied at similar times, so I’m following your timeline! Hopefully we hear some good news soon enough.

I am confused with the difference in people's time lines sometimes it is 3 months sometimes six. I am hoping Australians are treated quickly lol. We used an Immigration lawyer did you?
Teacake on 2018-11-19 said:
Nope, I put the packet together myself.
blank avatar Mandijcarter on 2018-11-19 said:
I don't think that makes much difference time wise provided all steps were done. I really want to visit Memphis. Have you seen Graceland?
Derek & Cece on 2019-07-30 said:
Congrats on your approval! I know how nervous you were, asking so many questions just like us! I hope that we have the same result and soon :)

Thank you so much! Yeah, I have a tendency to overthink and get anxious over things. I’m really relieved to be done with it now, though. Best of luck, you two! I’m sure it’ll all be fine!

When you got your packet 4 in May, were you put on a waiting list initially or did they actually book your appointment so far out? We got put on a waiting list because they said they were fully booked and it made us very sad because now we have no idea what's going on.
Teacake on 2019-07-30 said:
They didn’t mention a waiting list! That was just the date they gave me and I was fine with it because I had surgery in the interim between receiving packet 4 and attending the interview.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
