Consulate Review: Jamaica
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 31, 2006
Embassy Review : Our interview was on December 4th, 2006.

We did our homework, did all the research and were over-prepared with any supporting document they could possibly have asked for. Of course we were nervous. We went early, joined the line, were ushered in, did the security checks, went upstairs, had our forms checked (6 photos are required for that day) and waited to hear our name. The staff there are much more plesant and helpful than on the non-immigrant side. they even had a view and some potted plants and a TV.

We were sworn in and Jay was asked to take a seat. I had a previous overstay and the line of questioning during my interview was suggesting that I sought out Jay so that I could return to the U.S. I answered all the questions as directly and as honestly as I could. They came in rapidfire - one after the other without giving me much time for thought. Possibly 10 - 12 questions in total. My honesty paid off. She called him back to the window to inform us both that we were approved.

My visa was delivered within 4 days.

My advice : Do your homework, be prepared and be honest and you should be fine.

One more thing.. you don't need to walk with the X-Ray in your hand when you travel. Just your passport and the "brown packet" that says "do not open". And yes, they will issue a temporary work authorization stamp at JFK.

Mars.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
