My appointment was at 8:30am, and I arrived at the embassy on time. However, there is a queue right outside the embassy. The security guard will redirect you to a personnel who checks your documents and ask you to join one of the two queues. There is a sheltered area for the queue and no one can use their phones even though we are still outside the embassy.
Slowly, a few of us were allowed to queue outside the security door. One by one we enter to deposit our phone, do a bag check and a security check. They will give you a tag and you can make your way to the 'interview' area. Before that, there will be another quick bag check. Once entering the room, there will be a personnel there to see what you are there for and she will give you a queue number.
The K1 visa interviewees were given seats and there is only 1 booth dedicated to us. Other visa enquiries, goes to another long line but is served by 3 to 4 booths. Since everything is very open, everyone can hear what you are saying so there is no privacy at all.
I was third in line. The person started to review all my items when they suddenly said that they could not process my case because my health check up report has not arrived from the clinic yet. I informed them that it was mailed by the clinic on 1 August so it should have arrived. They said no but after awhile one of the seniors said they found it in their mail pile. It arrived but they just haven't looked through the pile yet. Please ask them to check if they say your mail did not arrive.
After that everything processed rather well. Unfortunately, i did not get the correct size of passport photos. However, they do have a instant photo booth in the same room so you can quickly get it done with no issues. It is $10 for 2 passport photos. The machine does not give change so you will need small change. The embassy does not do any money exchange or break down (unless making payment) either so if you have big notes, you will have to exchange with someone in the room.
After looking through all your things, they will ask you wait for your number again for the interview in the new window. You do a swearing in oath and just answer basic questions about your relationship and what your significant other likes. They will also ask about your last visit and what you did etc; as well as your wedding date. After that you make payment and you can leave.
Remember to exchange your tag for your phone back. It took me about 2 hours total from beginning to end. |
