POE was simple and quick. Many airport workers were around to guide travelers to the correct lines for processing. My fiance handed the officer the sealed K1 visa packet and was asked a few questions (What is your fiancee's name, how old is she, how did you meet). He also reminded my fiance that we have 90 days to get married and file for adjustment of status. My only issue is that my fiance's flight landed 35 minutes early and I (petitioner) barely made it to meet him at the gate! Certainly that is of no fault to the airport or the officers at O'Hare however. :) |

Our interview was scheduled to take place at the Chicago office at 11:45 AM, August 9, 2018.
My husband (beneficiary) and I (petitioner) arrived about an hour early. The security officers and receptionist who checked us in were friendly. The directed us to the waiting area, where we waited until about 12:15 for the officer to take us back into the office for the interview. The officer then took our passports and state IDs to verify our identities. We took the oath and began answering questions:
Questions for me (petitioner):
What is your husband's name?
When is your husband's birthday?
Have you met your husband's family?
What is his mother's name?
What was the purpose of your first trip to Morocco? In what year/month did the first visit take place?
(When shown a photo of us with his family): Who are the people in this photo?
Questions for him (beneficiary):
When is your wife's birthday?
Are you working now? Where?
Was your last entry to the USA on the K1 visa? (He had used AP so the answer was no, we then provided the officer with updated I94)
What was the purpose of the last trip you took (where you used AP)?
(When shown 2 photos of us with my family): Who are the people in this photo?
Questions for both:
When did the relationship go from just friends to seriously dating?
How did the subject of marriage come up? Was there a proposal? When?
Do you have any documentation of your life together in the US? (We provided him with photos, joint bank and credit card statements, joint tax return, health insurance)
At the end of the interview, he gave us an overview of the green card approval process and reminded us that it would be a conditional green card that would need to be renewed in 2 years. Finally he stated that he had enough documentation in order to make a decision, and that we should be hearing something within the next 2 weeks (he didn't specifically say that we were approved or denied). About 2 hours later, I got a text informing me the the green card was in production. |

K1 Visa Interview Date: July 10, 2017
Background about our case:
Female petitioner, male beneficiary
No age difference, no previous marriages/divorce, no children
Different cultural and religious backgrounds (He is Moroccan and I am not)
I made 5 total visits to Morocco including our initial meeting and 1 meeting after filing the I-129F documents.
Upon arriving at the consulate, there are several layers of security that you will need to go through. After that, there was a wait to submit the required documents (I-134, court records, DS-160 page ect). My fiance was asked if he had traveled outside of Morocco before. (He had not) Then there was another long wait to be called up to sit for the interview. He was asked what language he wanted to do the interview in (English).
The CO was an American man in his 30s. He was pleasant and seemed genuinely interested in our case.
Questions asked during interview:
- How did you your fiancée meet (included a lot of details about the day we met)
- What did your fiancée do before her first trip to Morocco as a volunteer
- Was her first trip to Morocco her first trip abroad
- Tell me about her additional trips to Morocco (4 additional trips)
- When did you get engaged (exact date)
- How did you propose (what phrase did you use)
- What did she say to your proposal
- Did you have an engagement party? (We did not)
- What do you (beneficiary) do for a living
- When are you planning on getting married
- What does your fiancée like (hobbies)
The CO did not want to see any of our call/chat logs or wedding planning proof. He looked at some of the photos and told my fiance that he was approved. Overall the interview was easy and the officer was very friendly and smiled and laughed a lot.
Timeline from interview to visa in hand:
July 10: Interview day
July 10 post interview CEAC status: 'Ready'
July 11: 'Administrative Processing'
July 12-14: 'Issued'
July 14: Text from Aramex, visa in hand!

Timeline Comments: 3I see you filed for ROC. We will send ours off this week. Good luck to you two.
Congratulations! So happy for you two.
Congratulations on the oath ceremony! Your journey if finally over!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
