Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 16, 2017
Embassy Review : My fiancé got at the embassy an hour before his interview (interview at 9:20, got there around 8:15). The embassy guard allowed him to go in early, but before going in he had to leave his backpack and cellphone with the people in front of the embassy... They come to you and charge 30 reais to keep your stuff.
After going in he went to the first floor and was given a piece of paper with information of the order he should put the documents. The paper didn't say anything about relationship proof. After putting the documents in order, he waited at a chair and was called on one of the windows for a pre interview. The guy (Brazilian) was really nice and looked over all his documents and gave a few back, he also collected his fingerprints. He even joked a little. Then back to waiting.. After around an hour and half, he got called to talk to the consul.
We believe that because he had already lived in the US, the consul started the conversation in english, without asking if he could speak it. She was really really nice, asked about his exchange (J-1 visa two year requirement), how we met and whether I've ever been to Brazil and if I liked it.
Then the visa was approved.
He got out around 11:15.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
