Consulate Review: Auckland, New Zealand
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 29, 2006
Embassy Review : Our experience with the Consulate was very good as per the other reviews I've read here. For some reason the letter scheduling my interview was returned to sender which prompted the Consulate to call me the day beforehand to see if I was still coming. While the time frame wasn't ideal we had everything we needed anyway so I was quite happy to get in before the Christmas holidays.

I paid my visa fee at the post shop and went up to level 3 for the interview. The guy on security was very nice and once he took my phone off me pointed me to a window to hand everything over. It did take about 10 minutes for someone to come to the window after I had rung the buzzer but the lady who did show up was very nice and showed me the returned letter that had been sent back to them. Not quite sure why that happened as the address was correct but by this point it was no big deal. One more form to fill in for good measure and I was told to have a seat and wait.

And wait I did. I was seen an hour after my scheduled time but the guy behind the counter was quite polite and after all the waiting to get to this point, another hour was hardly going to change things too much.

The interview wasn't quite what I was expecting. The hardest question I think he asked me was how my day was going. There was nothing about my fiancee or what I planned to do when I got there or anything like that. I did the swearing that everything we had submitted was accurate and I was told I was done. I doubt I would have been there more than five minutes. I almost hoped that he would ask a few questions just so I could feel like I'd got my money's worth but didn't want to push my luck...

Had a good Christmas with the family and the Friday after the interview everything turned up and we are now good to go. This would have had to be the quickest part of the whole process, which has made a nice change from the constant waiting up until this point.

All in all, I can't fault the Consulate on anything. They were always efficient with mailing documents out and in person they all appear friendly and helpful. I can't complain
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
