Event Description

Embassy Review : Our appointment was for 7:30am and we showed up at 7:00 and waited in line. The information kiosk looked at our passports and let us in. We checked in our bag and cell phones and took whatever documents we had bought to the waiting area. The waiting area reminded me of a DMV line and basically it functioned just like one. We took our number which ended up being 11 out of the 11 k-1 applicants that day. First they called us up to collect our documents. The grumpy Khmer clerk took the police records, physical exam, visa payment reciept, I-34, tax return for the last year and our evidence of relationship. That was it. We had bought a bunch of other stuff concerning financials and original divorce docs but she didn't take any of it.

We waited until 11:40am until we got our number called which by that time we were both tired of waiting and hungry. The CO took my fiancée fingerprints and then we communicated to her with a mix of English and Khmer. She asked my fiancé where she worked which my fiancé told her that she worked at an NGO children's hospital. The CO knew which NGO she worked for so that was pretty cool. She then asked us where we met, why was I divorced and who my kids lived with and what venue we were going to have the wedding at. Really straightforward questions that we didn't have any trouble answering. She then gave us back everything and gave us the blue slip to pick up the visa in a couple of weeks.

My advice after going thru this process is to just follow the steps on visa journey. This web site was a tremendous help. Also make sure you go with your fiancé to the interview. Only one girl that went by herself got her visa approved, the others denied with the CO saying that she doesn't believe the relationship is real. Also listening to the interviewees it seemed like the CO can really spot fruadualent relationships. I guess that should be the case because after all it is their job. I would have rated my experience 5 stars but I really hate the DMV experience which this totally reminded me of.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
