Embassy Review : |
Interview time: 7:30
- I get to the embassy and there is an impossible line outside. And from the get go, there is a major mix up. For some funny reason, security assumes I am American. They usher me to a different, much shorter line, check my stuff and send me over to citizen services. So I am now in the office not knowing what happened.
- I finally get to the main interview area and a American lady from citizen services asks me how she could help. I tell her I am here for an interview and I am not a U.S citizen. "Do I need to go back into the queue outside?" No, she asks me to hand over the interview letter and immediately processes it. She asks me to go grab a number and a seat.
- Mind you, the local security lady (in charge of seating and general order in the interview room) upon realizing I am not American, gets an attitude shift in a split second. ***More on this later...
- Interview process: 5 lines. Everything out in the open for all to hear. Guy in line 4 now knows the love/life story of lady in line 3. Tons of arguing with the officers (a no-no), pictures proving relationships, letters, western union receipts, marriage/divorce certificates, kids presented to officers as further proof, tears, acceptances, AP and denials - Oh the denials...
- Finally I get called into a private room. Apparently if you're coming for consular processing from overseas (US, US territories, Australia, Canada and specific EU countries) and had your passport/civil documents forwarded to the consulate, your interview is held in private (security reasons as I was told). However, I seriously thought I was in some sort of trouble when this happened.
- Interview takes around 20 minutes. No need to prove relationship as both bio-metrics and DNA test were at an NVC approved center in the US.
- Congrats...
Total in and out time from the ride to the consulate, interview and back to the hotel, 1h:48mins. However trust me, some applicants spent a good 4-5 hours. I'd rate my experience a 4/5
*** Wow. Some people can be very, very rude. There is no need to work security if you're going to pick and choose who to abuse based on nationality. This security lady was local and boy was her attitude towards her country folk something to behold. This one time she screamed at this old woman applying to go stay with her son in Seattle. She remarked "You can't even pronounce the name of where you are going to live then why are you even traveling?" She was mean, nasty and downright bitter - to a point where one of the officers had to reprimand her. Her method of arrogantly scooting people around chairs in the waiting area? Just atrocious. But as soon as she made her way to citizen services? Complete 180. And apparently, she's well known there by regular applicants who say "that's just her being herself" I made sure to leave some nice feedback on her conduct before leaving and I urge anyone going to interviews to do the same if they are (or see someone being) subject to this type of behavior.

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
