Embassy Review : Where to start....

I got to the Consulate about 7.30am and the lifts were open about 7.40am so I had to wait until then. Remembered to be last in the lift so I ended up first in line at Level 10 where my bags were searched. At security on Level 59 they took my mobile phone and gave me a ticket..oh and they made me drink some of my water in front of them (I guess in case I was carrying something harmful??). I got the first ticket once inside the actual Consulate.

The Wiggles arrived shortly after me....first Geoff, then Cap't Feathersword and the others....seriously, can you believe it! Which was the start to a rather entertaining morning. Apparently they are touring the USA in a few weeks.

I was called up the Counter 3 at about 8.15am. The lady was really nice. I handed over the papers in the correct order and she told me to take a seat as she had to go through them thoroughly and that she would call me again once she had finished. About 15mins later I got called up to Counter 3 again. The lady who served me said "I just want to commend you on a excellent application" which was a relief as my fiance had accidently stood on his employment letter in the snow before he sent it and it had a big muddy footprint so I told her and apologised and she just laughed and said she gets much worse than that. Plus, he had used whiteout on the I-134 which is a no-no so I was worried that it would get knocked back but she didn't say anything about it. She said, "Here is your Welcome to America letter, you need to read it thoroughly before you enter the United States. Everything looks fine in your application. Please have a seat and you will be called to Counter 7 for your interview."

While I was waiting for my interview the Wiggles were having jokes with the Consulate staff and it made me laugh so hard when the US Consulate guy called up Captain Feathersword! Was hilarious!

I was called up for my interview at about 9am. The Consulate guy first made me take an oath to tell the truth and then asked me questions like, when and where did we meet? How many times had I seen my fiance and how long for? Had I ever lived in another country? Had I ever committed a crime? and a few others. He matched my answers with what was on my forms. Then he said "Your approved". I thought it was kinda strange that he didn't ask to see my evidence. I was proud of my neat and labelled folder, so I asked, "Don't you want to see my evidence?" He said no there was enough evidence from the original petition and that because USCIS had approved it they only need to see additional evidence if there is a problem. It took me hours to put that thing together!!!

Well that was it! I left the embassy at around 9.30am and as soon as I got outside I was overwhelmed with tears. I think that in your mind you build it up so much that nerves get the better of you. The feeling of relief is worth the wait!

Good luck to all of you who are about to go through this. It's easy, just make sure that you have everything in order.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
