Consulate Review: France
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 21, 2016
Embassy Review : As everybody previously said, you do have to wait across the street. I didn't even ask anyone about it, there was a group of people already waiting so I stayed with them and the security guard called 8:45 at first (my appointment was at 9:00) and then called us.

They looked inside my bag, checked if I had any metal on me and then I was in line where the lady checked all my papers. She took the sealed medical enveloppe (didn't open it), passport, DS-160 confirmation and police certificate; she put them all together, gave them back to me and told me to give them that way to the officer inside (this all happened outside by the way).

I then went into the "security room" with officers who put my phone, headphones and lip balms in a bag. They gave me a badge with a number on it to get them back later.

I finally arrived inside the consulate, followed the signs for "visa" and got in line with other people. It took a little while before I saw a first officer who asked me for all the papers I was asked for outside + my birth certificate and a picture (5cmx5cm). She confirmed my address, gave me a copy of the original approved petition as well as the photos submitted back (which I found odd but it seems it was normal). She asked me for fingerprints and told me to wait in line on the left.

After 5min, I was called by the CO who confirmed I could speak english, made me raised my right hand and swear. He then asked me the following questions (I'm probably missing a couple):

- You are engaged to a US citizen, correct?
- Can you tell me about how and when you met? When did you start dating? How long have you been together for?
- What do you do for a living?
- Are you going to be looking for the same job in the us?
- What city are you moving to?
- Does your fiancé already live there?
- What does he do for a living?
- Do you have any wedding plans already? Are you getting married in LA?
- Is your family going to be able to attend the wedding?
- Have you ever visited your fiance's mom in Reno? (where she was born - not where she lives; so I said yes and told him where she lived - pretty sure that was on purpose)
- Have you or your fiancé ever been married before?

There was always a lot of time between each question where he was typing and looking at the documents over and over again. He was super nice, joked a couple times, told me my fiancé (USC) looked really French haha, took my fingerprints again and ended by "You are approved! You should get your passport back in 7 to 10 days. Good luck in America!"

It was a fairly smooth process and everyone was pretty friendly, especially the CO so that made the experience easier
Good luck to all of you & feel free to message me with questions!!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
