The visa was first delivered on October 17th but with a mistake on it! The information about my fiancé was all wrong. Had to send back my passport to have them redo the visa. Got the correct one pretty quickly, exactly 1 week after they got the passport back. |

Well, it was quite a ride!
Online status changed for "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview" on September 5th 2017. Interview notice received by postal mail only (case not updated online) on February 13th, 2018. Online status changed for "Interview was completed and my case must be reviewed" on April 7th, 2018. Green card denied on May 3rd, 2018 (reason given: husband did not attend the interview). Motion to Reopen or Reconsider I-290B sent by attorney on May 21st, 2018. Motion granted on July 27th, 2018. RFE sent on July 27th, 2018, requesting an up-to-date medical examination. New medical examination done on August 7th, 2018. Results sent to the USCIS on August 13th, 2018. Card in production on August 23th, 2018. Green card received on September 1st, 2018. |

Hi there! :D
Had my interview today at 9AM. As everybody said before, they made us wait across the street. As I was there super early, I waited in the park to clear my head a bit. I went back there around 8:50 which was a pretty good idea since they were calling for 9AM appointments exactly when I showed up =P I went through the first security check and then a lady asked for my medical sealed envelope, my passport, my DS-160 confirmation page and my police certificate. She put them all together, gave them back to me and told me to keep going. Once inside, there was a second security check, I had to leave there my phone (got a badge with a number to get it back later).
Got inside, followed the “visa†signs and got in line with other people. At least 6 or 7 were before me. I waited something like half an hour at least. After that I finally got to see someone. She took my fingerprints and my documents (the medical sealed envelope, my passport, the confirmation of payment with my address, the DS-160 confirmation page, the police certificate, the birth certificate and the 5x5cm picture). She didn’t ask for anything else, not even the updated letter of intent. She gave me a copy of my original approved petition and the original of the pictures submitted at the time.
I didn’t have to wait for the other counters (where take place the interviews) because no one was waiting. I got immediately assigned to the only one with a lady inside and she was nothing but... adorable  Extremely polite and all smiling. She asked me if I spoke English, made me raise my right hand and take the oath. She also took my fingerprints (yep, again, just in case I had been replaced by my doppelganger between the two counters that were only 5 meters away from each other XD). Then she took a quick look at my petition and realized that changes had been made (a change of address). That’s how the questions started because that’s the first thing she asked me about. Now you gotta know that my situation is quite specific, since my fiancé is currently incarcerated with a long sentence. When she realized that, she immediately asked me about it, about his sentence, about the charges. After I answered her, she apologized for asking personal and intrusive questions like that, which I really appreciated. I told her that she was only doing her job and that I completely understood. For the rest of the interview, she remained extremely professional and not a second she was judgmental. Actually she was extremely sweet all the interview long.
Now, here are all the questions she asked me. Keep in mind that some are, of course, related to my personal situation with my soon-to-be-husband:
- So your fiancé is currently in prison?
- What is his sentence, what were the charges?
- How old was he at the time of the offense?
- In what circumstances did you meet?
- What was the website where you found his profile?
- When was the first time you two met in person?
- Is it possible to get married in prison?
- Do you have the possibility to have guests with you?
- Who are these people ready to sponsor you? (I had a letter of intent of sponsor written by my future in-laws in my original application)
- Have you met his family?
- In which state your fiancé was born?
- Does your family support you? Has your fiancé met them?
- Have you always lived in France? Where?
- What is your job?
- How long is your advance notice?
- Do you know how much time you have with the visa before entering the US?
- What is it about your fiancé, what do you like about him?
- Have you ever had issues with the law?
- How many times have you been in the US? When was it?
- Is it your first marriage? Is it his first too?
- Are you aware of the difficulties such a relationship entails?
- Have you made wedding plans already?
I really didn’t experience the whole thing like an interrogatory. She took her time to ask the questions and was typing some of my answers. She had my application in front of her and was looking at it at the same time. Just for you to know, she was discovering the application for the first time.
From her reactions I could tell she had never experienced a situation like mine before, and through her questions I detected some kind of curiosity, but not a single judgment once. When she was done, she said that my paperwork was in order, that the interview was over and that I was approved :D She explained me that they would keep my passport between 5 and 10 days and would have everything sent back to my place once the visa’s issued.
At the end of the process, I took the time to thank her for being this sweet and understanding with me. In my situation, I’m used to very negative reactions, so I was extremely surprised - in a good way of course - that she acted this respectfully with me. She even apologized a second time for her intrusive questions. In short, I’d never have thought I'd say that but I had a great time!!!
After getting my phone back, I believe I got out around 10:10 or something.
Considering my situation, I was really dreading this interview, but I believe that as long as your relationship is genuine, you really have nothing to worry about. Feel free to message me if you want! And to the people in similar situations: the whole process may seem insurmountable, but don’t give up, it is possible, just look at me
