Consulate Review: Singapore Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa Event Description Review Date : March 14, 2017 Embassy Review : Just had an IR-1 interview in Singapore a few hours ago. My appointment was at 10 am. I showed up at around 9.30, stood in line outside for 5 min or so and then entered the consulate. I quickly went through to the waiting room (after they checked my passport + photos and appointment letter). I waited for what seemed like 30 min (hard to say exactly as i couldn't check the time on my phone). I was then invited to the window for the initial document check. They took my birth certificate and marriage certificate originals. The person asked some basic questions such as: 1. When did you get married? 2. Do you have children? 3. Were you or your husband preciously married? 2. What is you immigration status in Singapore (checked my EP). 3. Does your husband work in Singapore? 4. When are you planning on moving? He asked for police certificates. That it unfortunately where it got disappointing. I had the original COC (certificate of clearance) from Singapore and I submitted a copy to NVC with all the documents. The date of the COC that i requested was for the period when I resided in Singapore. I am self employed. I registered a company here in Singapore in April 2014 but I only got an EP later and moved to Singapore in January 2016. The COC for the period starting in January 2016 didn't satisfy him. I tried explaining that I didn't live in Singapore after registering the company. They said it wouldn't matter and I had to get a new COC. I went to the consular officer after that. She was really nice. She checked with me regarding the fact that I used to be an LPR before. I explained when, where and why I gave up the green card. I tried explaining again that I didn't start living in Singapore until January 2016, but that wouldn't change anything. Then she explained what I need to do to submit the missing document. I got a 221(g) letter. She said after the receive the document, my visa will be issued in about 2 weeks. So it sounded like it would have been approved if it wasn't for the COC. Although generally an ok experience, I was quite upset (obviously!) that i didn't get the approval right away. How could I predict that i need the COC to cover the period when i didn't actually live here? Now it delays the process for me for about a month (3 weeks to get the COC, plus 2 weeks for the consulate processing). Good luck to everyone with your upcoming interviews! Jenia Rating : Moderate
