Event Description

Embassy Review : My wife and I just got back to Chiang Mai after submitting I-130 package to the Homeland Security office. This is not in the embassy, but across the street from the U.S. citizen services entrance. My wife's friends in BKK kept saying that there is long line at embassy and have to get there very early. We arrived at the office at 8:00 am and were the only ones there. The guard at the desk ran us through his security routine and we went back to the service room.

At 8:30 sharp a Thai women appeared at the window and I presented the package of information. She left to go through it and came back perhaps 15 minutes later. The main problems we had related to some confusion as to what needed to be copied that necessitated a trip down to the first floor copy room (5 Bhat per page). The other problem was with the forms and the fact that I did not correctly put None or N/A in all of the spots that required it.

I then went to the cashier in the embassy, paid the $420 and came back. The lady reminded me to make sure everything is copied when we submit the Packet 3 materials and that the most important thing will the statement of support. I our case my SS retirement more than meets the income requirement and my wife has a job offer from a childhood friend who opened a Thai restaurant in Seattle 25 years ago. I wil also find a job. She said it would take 3 months for Homeland to finish and transfer the package to the embassy.

We left at 11:00 am. Overall, it was a very good experience and we learned some things that will be very useful for the next step.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
