Embassy Review : |
Here is how my day went for the K1 Visa Interview in Paris:
Appointment was set online by me, for July 27th 10:30. I spent a total of 45 mins at the consulate.
The embassy’s address is 2 avenue Gabriel. You have to walk on the opposite sidewalk to get to the Consulate, and wait for an officer to let you cross and go through security.
About 8 of us had appointments set for 10:30 that day, and they started to let us in at 10:25.
The first step is to go through a first security check outside the consulate, where an officer checks your bag and throws away any food or drinks you may have. Make sure to bring as small of a bag as you can as suitcases are not allowed inside. Also, you can bring your phone, which will be kept in a bag and stored away until you leave the consulate. No laptops are allowed and they will not store it away for you.
The second step is to go through a first document check outside the consulate. Officers will make sure you have all the documents needed for any immigrant/non immigrant visa. They will give you all your documents back and allow you to go inside.
After this, your bag will be checked a second time, this is when they will take your electronics and store them away, as well as xray your bag.
Now you can finally go in !
You have to queue a first time to give the documents that were checked at the entrance to a consulate officer. The lady was very kind and here are the documents she asked for my k1:
Passport
1 passport photo
Confirmation of DS-160
Birth certificate (less than 3 months old)
Police Check (less than 3 months old)
Proof of payment of fees of $235
Results of the medical in sealed envelope
I was never asked for an affidavit of support from my Fiancé or an updated statement of intent to marry (but I gave it to them anyway).
She then told me to start queuing in a different line for the actual interview. I was expecting a long wait and a private office for the interview, but it all happened differently.
I only queued for about 10mins before I could talk to a consulate officer . He asked me a few questions about me and my fiancé’s relationship:
What is his name?
What does he do for a living?
Where does he work?
Why do you want to live in the U.S.A?
Can you please give me more pictures of the two of you together?
What is your job?
When will the wedding be?
When do you plan on leaving for the U.S.A?
Have you ever lived together? For how long? Where?
Where do you intend to live in the U.S.A?
He was super nice and told me I would get my passport back with the visa in it within 10 business days. I was so relieved, and was really not expecting the process to take this little time and to be as smooth! So I overall had an excellent experience at the U.S consulate in Paris!
I hope this review was helpful to some of you.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
