Consulate Review: Nicaragua
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 11, 2016
Embassy Review : We arrived about 8:40am for our appointment at 9:30am. We waited for about a half hour and were then instructed to get in a line with the residential visa applications. We were told to open the medical packet. We were then led inside where we went through security and left our phone with security. We then walked through the outdoor area of the embassy and went through a second security. We were then able to get our number and were told to wait in the outside area. There were iced mochas and other food and beverages for sale. We waited about an hour and a half until our number was called with about 5 other numbers. We then went inside a small room with 6 or 8 service windows and sat down with the others to wait. In about half an hour our number was called and we went up to the window. We handed her all of the documents we brought and she started entering information in the computer and asking us questions about when and how we met, how often I had been to visit, etc. She then asked us to sit down and said we would be called to window #3. We waited about 15 or 20 minutes and were called up by name. This officer was an American. He had been reviewing our documents briefly and then asked us about when we met, when our relationship began, how often I had visited Nicaragua, if my family had met him. Pretty much all of the questions were for me (the American citizen) and were English. He then told us in Spanish that the visa was approved and he gave us a photocopy of my fiances passport. We were out of there by about 12. Overall a very good experience, just a lot of waiting.
Rating : Very Good

POE Review: Miami
Event Description
Entry Date : 2016-03-16
Embassy Review : We landed about 7pm in Miami and got in the visitors line together (my fiance with his K1 visa). The officer reviewed his passport and visa and then had us go stand against the wall and wait for a different officer to collect his packet and take us to the waiting room. The room was filled with people, many of whom had been waiting for hours already. We found a couple of chairs and sat down to wait. They would come out and call names, but it was a little difficult to hear. After an hour and a half they finally called my fiance's name. We followed her to a different room with more people and service windows and she handed us a piece of paper and told us to read the paragraph. It was a reminder of how we had 90 days to get married upon entering. She then handed us his passport and we left. A lot of waiting but very low stress. Luckily we were in no rush for a flight (ours didn't leave until the next morning) because there were several people who missed their next flights.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
