Embassy Review : |
Hello fellow visa applicants. Thanks for all the advice I've received through this site. The input from other members makes the long wait bearable and gives confirmations of confusing information. We are united once again me and my wife. The interview was in 23rd June 2016. Here is how she described her experience going through the interview. I'm sorry the review is not going to be comprehensive since i already forgot most of the details about what she described or the requirements.
There were a lot of people lined up in front of the embassy in the morning, the guards asked for specific documents while the people waited in line, she had two photos but the guard noticed that they weren't recently taken so she was directed to go to a nearby studio where she can obtain new ones. First official she met inside asked for the important documents that were listed in the NVC letter. My wife had most of the documents except for her ORIGINAL birth certificate but the lady said its OK, you can still get interviewed and send us the birth certificate in the mail through Aramex, which she did after the interview. One thing to note through is that even if the embassy does not specifically ask for certain documents, its better to have more proof/documents/originals than be short on them on that day. The passport with the visa was ready for pickup in about 7 days and would have been ready in 5 days if the birth certificate was available during the interview. They don't need to take the original documents they just need to verify that the copies on file are legit, i think. Oh, by the way, I've been able to use my own translations rather than using a translating office for all the documents. all i needed to do was write down a statement at the bottom of the document "I certify that this is a complete and accurate translated document from the Arabic language to the English language, and that I’m competent for this translation" Translator:________ Translator signature:_______ Date:_______
The interviewer asked my wife about the interview language preference, and she preferred to be interviewed in Arabic (the official spoke both English and Arabic fluently). The questions were, what does your husband do for a living? how long did he work and when did he start working? whats your husband address in the states? whats his birthday?. You dont need to answer all the questions, you just need to answer truthfully and not seem shady or trying to hide something. My wife told me her interview went smooth and they gave her back much of the documents that I've sent to NVC or at the different processing stages which were plentiful for the purpose of providing additional proof of income, tax returns, W-2's, domicile in US proof, cosponsor documents, etc...
It took about a full year to receive the CR-1 visa, from July 3rd 2015 to July 6th 2015.

Timeline Comments: 1Hi. Does the translation apply to all documents even marriage certificate? Do I need to get it notorized or the translation alone is enough?
