Embassy Review : |
My fiance's appointment was at 10:15. He arrived at the embassy at 9:45, got in at around 10:15. He first went to a window to present his appointment confirmation page. They asked for the receipt of the visa fee payment.
After a wait, he was called to another window, where he submitted the medical exam, his birth certificate, the affidavits of support, the pictures, and the judicial, penal and police certificates. NOTE: There are three different kinds of police certificates. YOU NEED TO GET TYPE 2 "VIAJES AL EXTRANJERO". They asked him if he wished to submit additional documentation, and he gave them pictures of us together. They also asked him for my phone number.
He was then called to another window for the actual interview. He was asked
- His name and my name
- Where he was from in Peru
- When/where we met
- How we met + "tell us more about your relationship"
- Whether or not I (petitioner) spoke Spanish
- Our respective ages
- Who "[name of our co-sponsor]" was (my father) (No problem using a co-sponsor - I (USC) am currently a grad student and have no income.
- The CO looked at some pictures and asked where the proposal picture had been taken
The interview was in Spanish until the CO misunderstood something he had said in Spanish and he said it in English. She then said "Oh you speak English" and continued speaking English with him.
The visa was approved during the interview. Overall it took maybe 2.5 hours total, most of which was waiting. Fiance said it was all straightforward.
Things he brought to the interview that he did not need or use:
Proof of relationship other than pictures.
The I-129F petition, the NOA1 and NOA2.
The packet 3 letter from the embassy saying his case was ready for interview.
The updated letters of intent to marry

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
