So I had an appointment at the US Consulate in Vancouver at 10am.
The night before, I read some reviews about interviews that happened in the past, and so I conclude that instead of coming half an hour in advance, I would come at 7:30am in the hope of getting it over with sooner.
Nope.
I was told to come back at 9:45am.
So my and my cold ass we walked to a coffee shop, and I thank myself for bringing a book because I would have been bored to death otherwise. I was there alone, because my fiancée lives in San Diego, and my roommate was on call for work.
Anyways.
I asked a guy what time it is. 9:00am. Fuck that, I walk to the US Consulate. it's raining like crazy, I'm freezing, so I REALLY HOPE I can get inside the building.
Nope. Too early, again.
I sat on the stairs for half an hour, fingers purple, ass stone cold.
I stood up and went to the entrance. There, a lady took my passport, my confirmation page and my medical results, and gave me a card with "window B" written on it. Then I passed the security check, everything was good. I entered the building. Finally!
There, another security check, a little like at an airport, except you don't have to remove your shoes, and you didn't bring any electronic anyway.
After that, I went to the bathroom, because there is none at the 20th floor, where you are waiting for a long time. I have a bladder the size of a quarter, so I had to make sure I wasn't going to pee during my interview ah ah (I'm kidding, but not really).
Then, I took the elevator that brought me to the 20th floor. There, I sat on a chair for at least 30 minutes, and then was told to go to window B. There, a lady asked me for my documents, and crossed everything on a paper (her pen had a pink ink, so there was that). She didn't take the checklist itself, or the termination of domestic partnership from my fiancée, or her pay stubs or my statement of intent to marry her (she just took my fiancée's statement). She told me to get in the line for my interview. There was 16 people before me, and it doesn't go by fast.
A little over an hour and a jacket removed later, I was finally at booth 5 to have my interview. The guy was about 55 years old, seemed really blasé and unhappy to be here, so I was very impressed lol. He didn't say anything for 5 to 7 minutes that seemed like an eternity. Then he took my digital fingerprint, both hands, and made me raise my right hand to swear I was telling the truth when I said I wanted to be married to Lucy, and then I signed my with right hand.
The questions he asked me :
- Tell me when you guys met and how your relationship evolved.
- When did you met in person?
- When did you decide to get engaged?
- Where does she live?
- From all the pictures you gave us as evidence of your relationship, take 3 and explain what they represent.
- Where do you live?
- What do you do in Canada?
- What does Lucy do?
That's it... literally nothing. And I was a mess, like a huge ball of stress and sweat, it was disgusting lol.
After that, he told me to go the window B again, and that the lady was going to explain to me the next step. My heart was starting to race because i thought he was supposed to tell me if I go the visa or not. So I went to window B, and I saw him walking behind the window, and giving my file to a lady sitting at a desk (I couldn't see her face), and walking back with a smile on his face. Then the lady stoop up with a big smile on her face and the file opened, and she said "Congratulations! You are going to get your visa within 7 business days."
I was screaming internally, and I couldn't wait to tell Lucy!!
I literally ran to the skytrain, and it took the longest time to get arrive to my station. I ran home, my roommate opened the door for me (I didn't take my keys), and I told her I got the visa while running to my room to get to my phone and call Lucy.
