Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 7, 2006
Embassy Review : My appointment time was 0930, but it seemed they were already behind by then, since I did not go in until 1015.
Once in, I only had to wait about 20 mins until seeing the first person. (I was number 11)
The man was very nice and only asked for my documents, no questions about my fiance or our relationship.
Then I had to wait about 2 hours for the actual interview. It seemed that there was only one window dealing with immigrant visas, (taking about 15 mins per person) and all the rest were dealing with non-immigrant visas.
That was pretty frustrating!!!
Anyway, once I was called up, the lady was really nice. She asked me how we met and when did we decide that we wanted to get married. Then she told me to hold up my hand and repeat after her. (I think I had to swear that all of the information I had given was correct)
Then I was free to go.
This was the 3rd time I had been to the embassy, (have had other visas to the US before). They are getting more organised, and it seems that if you only want a non-immigrant visa then it is a fairly quick and painless process.
Over all it was about a 4 hour process.
A couple of tips for you...
Get there 1/2 hour before. I was told they see around 700 people each day and loads of other people have the same appointment time as you. So by getting there early you get close to the front of the line for your appointment time.
Also, be prepared for rain and cold. There is no shelter while you are waiting outside. As you know the British weather is very unpredictable.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
