Although he told me that he approved me, I did not have an original signed I134 and have to send that it in order for them to finish the process. Yikes! After all that preparation, I can't believe I did not have that in the package.... |

Embassy Review : |
All in all, I have to say that this went very well and the stress I experienced was not necessary. But, given that my entire future depended on it, I would have to say that everyone's stress is well founded. Just try to give yourself a break.
I got to Montreal the night before and stayed at the Square Phillip just around the corner and took a walk by to make sure I would know where to go in the morning. Like everyone said, I went early around 7 AM and since there were only 5 people in line I went to Starbucks and grabbed a latte. I went back and was about 10th in line by then and many started filing in after that.
You go through security and they give you a ticket for forbidden items like keys and lighters. You go down some stairs and wait in a room with an elevator that a security guard comes by and pushes up to the 19th floor. The doors open on the opposite side that you enter and its like a DMV with numbered windows. You are given a number and you wait in the middle area.
They call me, I'm number 4 and I go up to Window 1. There I am asked for my medical, which was mailed to the Embassy by Dr. Mashenaras since I had a care and control charge in 1989. She goes to find it and gives me back the CD with my chest x-ray for my records. Then I am asked for my I 134, 864, letter of intent, birth certificate and copy, passport and copy. I did not have an original signed I 134 and am very concerned at this point and she did not have one either. She asked if he was there as he could sign it on the spot. I said no, I'm sorry he is not here today. I thought we had sent that off in the original package. The clerk was very kind and said its ok, just see what the CO says. I had a co-sponsor at this point as I was concerned that my fiancé is semi retired and did not make the poverty line last year. I was told that they didn't need that. She finger printed me on a scanner.
I sit back down and my number is called quickly to window 8 for my interview. The CO asked me how I was and I said good, how about you. He said, living the dream, just living the dream. I laughed. He said thank you for showing up and I said, oh, do people not show up. He said well, they reschedule and change times and it can be a mess. Then he had me finger print my left hand in the scanner.
Then he lit up and said, so, you're getting married! I started to smile at this point thinking about it and said yes. Then he rapid fired questions at me and please let me say that he was very good at what he was doing. I work in HR and do the same thing...you want the person to be at ease so you can quickly get to what you need to know.
Have you ever stayed in the US more than 6 months: no
Have you ever had problems at the border: no
Have you ever had problems with the police: yes
He looked kind of annoyed at this point and asked what for and I told him and he said, oh, that's just like a DUI, don't worry its ok.
Is this your first marriage and his second. I said, my first but his third and he said, oh yes.
How did you meet: 20 years ago when he was working in Canada and we got back in touch about 3 years ago.
How did you get back in touch: facebook. He laughed and said, oh yes, facebook.
What does he do now: fiber optics installer and custom auto mechanic.
Does he have any strange quirks that are also endearing. This took me aback and I started laughing thinking of something as he has many but of course, many I don't want to tell. So I said yes, his love of car racing, Nascar, everything Dale Earnhart, the number 3. He smiled.
He said, oh, you don't have an original signed I 134. I said no, I'm sorry its not there.
Is everything you told me true: yes
He said not to worry that he was approving my visa but I would have to send in an original signed I 134.
He gave me a piece of paper with instructions on how to send the I 134 and said, here, you might not remember so I'm also writing down your case number so it will be good. Over night it if you can.
I was back at my hotel by 9:10. My plane didn't leave until 5:30 so I had some time to kill and the Square Phillip let me stay in my room till 1:30. I went to Spa Diva and had an hour massage (highly recommended in Cour Mont Royal about a 10 minute walk).
I went home and have not slept that well in ages.
Now to get the I134 from my fiancé that should arrive on Tuesday and over night it to the Embassy to finish up my paper work.
Good luck to everyone. Please don't stress like I did. They were very professional and even made it a bit of fun in the end.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
