Embassy Review : |
Just thought I'd post a little review of the process for anyone else going through/about to go through it.
Aug. 24th Sent in I-130 to US Embassy
Aug. 27th NOA1 received by email/money taken
Oct. 12th NOA2 (received 14th)
Oct. 20th Pkt 3 (received 21st)
Oct. 22nd DS-260 filled out, Medical booked and Notification of Readiness sent
Nov. 9th Medical attended
Nov. 16th Email received from embassy with interview date
Nov. 16th Registered for courier
Dec. 2nd INTERVIEW! - Approved!
The medical was easy enough, found the place fine and it took less than an hour. Doctor was very cold and business like and I felt really nervous because of it, but it was all fine in the end.
Once the Immigrant Visa Unit received my case I emailed them to explain our situation (hubby being made redundant, I'm pregnant, hoping to move and get settled before baby arrives) and ask if there was any way to schedule the interview ASAP. They were obviously very obliging because a few days later I got an e-mail saying my interview was on Dec. 2nd.
Arrived for my interview, I joined the long queue half an hour before my appointment time but less than a minute later an employee called out for all immigrant visas to skip the queue, so I did. Then you queue up to go through security and once past there you walk into the embassy. Got given a ticket number and sat down about 15 minutes before my official interview time. I had taken a book after hearing you could wait a while, but I honestly couldn't read - every few seconds there's a bing noise as a new ticket number flashes up on the screen. So I gave up on reading, just did less involved things like texted family and friends. I finally got called up an hour and a half after my interview time, and handed in my paperwork. I answered a few questions then paid my fee. Sat back down and waited, about 10 minutes later I was called up again.
The actual interview was more thorough than I expected given other reviews, I was asked loads of questions, including specific details about how hubby and I first met. We've been married almost 15yrs, and I was a green card holder before for over 5yrs, so I was a little surprised at being questioned thoroughly about how we met! I felt like she was trying to catch me out, saying things like "Oh I didn't notice... what year did you get married again?". I mean, hubby has been a PR of the UK for the last 9yrs, and we have 3 kids and one on the way, is there seriously a chance this is a scam marriage?
Anyway, eventually, I was told congratulations, that I was approved. And I breathed a sigh of relief! I was told my visa should arrive within 2 weeks. Flights are booked for January 8th. |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
