Embassy Review : |
My interview was on 2 December at 8.00am, exactly a month after my medical. I arrived outside the US Embassy in London at 7.00am and was 6th in line. They started checking your appointment letter, passport and DS160 confirmation letter just before 8.00am and then went through airport style security to get into the embassy. At the reception you are given your number and then you enter a large waiting area where you can buy hot drinks, cold drinks and snacks. I waited only about 15 minutes and was called forward to provide my documents - passport, birth certificate, affidavit of support, police certificate. I had my finger prints taken and was asked what date I planned to travel. I was asked if I had ever lived in any other countries after the age of 16.
I think sat back down and waited about an hour and was called for the actual interview. You have to give an oath that you will tell the truth and then the questions began. What was our story, where did we meet? Had either of us been married before (yes - my fiancé). She looked through all the paperwork to see the divorce papers. We're there children from the marriage, did I know them and get in with them - yes, yes and yes. Where will be living, when traveling out and when planning to get married, will it be a big wedding. Had I lived in any other countries. And then "congratulations, your visa has been approved and it will take about a week to get your passport back". Huge relief.
During the interview the consular official was flicking through my paperwork, the first time she had seen it. She was interested in the employers letter and affidavit of support form, but didn't look at the supporting bank statements or pay slip.
I was finished in an hour and a half. I was pretty nervous before the interview but I had checked and double checked that I had all the required documentation and all was good in the end. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
