The experience was not all at all what I expected!
My appointment was at 7:40 am on a tuesday and my Fiance went with me. We stayed in the Days Inn Mtl east motel/hotel which without traffic is about 20 or so min away from the consulate. We left at 6:30 am and it took an hour to get there on the interstate because the traffic was crazy!
We parked on the side of the road, payed for 2 hours of parking. Left our cell phones and all bags in the vehicle and carried all our documents inside. This was helpful because the officers gave sh*t to every person who brought in a bag. So our appt was at 7:40 am and we got to the consulate 7:40 am even though we were SUPPOSE to be there 20 min before our appointment date - oh well.
Its like a dmv... they give K1 visa people a number and you sit and wait until you are called.
The fist lady I spoke to after my number was called only wanted to see me (I had already told my fiance not to come up with me until I ask).
She asked for my police records, BC, translation, COPY of translation*, passport, copy of passport* (which I did not have), copy of BC, his financial records (i-134 and supporting docs), and she took my finger prints.
MAKE SURE YOU MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING!!!!
* I was puzzled when she asked for a copy of my passport. I told her I didn't have one and she just said " you are suppose to. originals and copies of all documents". I told her I just didn't have it and she was cool with it I guess. Now I gave her my original BC, copy of BC and original certified translation ASSUMING she would keep the original translation - i got it translated for this interview. She then asks for a copy of the translation... I didn't take a photocopy but I did have a photocopy of a previous certified translation of my BC and gave that to her. That seemed fine. She told me to have a nice day after taking some documents.
She didn't ask many questions, only if I was every arrested - which I wasn't. If my fiance and I have had previous marriages and/or had any kids. (No previous marriages, no kids either side).
She gave me a number, told me to wait. I waited with my fiance. We were called very shortly after to a smaller and secluded room with a dmv type window. There a guy greeted us, made me swear all the things were true to my knowledge. Asked me if I ever lived anywhere else ( i didnt), if I ever stayed in USA longer than 6 months (I did - legally extended my stay. he asked for approval notice but when I pulled it out he didnt look at it even), if I ever been to USA before (I have), if I ever had trouble with the law/trouble at the border (nope - Im a good girl).
He then asked my FI questions about where he worked.
He didn't ask for a single proof of our relationship, no pics, no nothing. He didn't ask for proof of my fiance's domicile or how I'd support myself. I went back with over half the paperwork because they didn't ask for it. its so weird...
Then he goes "ok, your visa is approved, you'll get everything back within 2 weeks, have a nice day".
I was too in shock and i still am - hasnt hit me yet. I've been hoping for this day for a very long time and we got approved!!!!!!
Anyway, status hasn't changed on CEAC yet but I am approved! We got out at 9 on the dot so it was under an hour ish.
Tips:
if you have a 7:40 appt, dont worry about being there really early because the place doesn't even open till 8. Getting there at 7:40 am is fine. Traffic is really bad early morn, so keep that in mind! Don't bring bags and leave phones either with the people at the consulate when they search you (they do that before you are allowed in) or in your vehicle. Don't forget to make copies of everything!
I guess dont be alarmed if they barely ask you anything or ask for any proof of relationship.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
