Embassy Review : |
Here is the experience of my fiance at New Delhi embassy for his K1 interview:
Interview was fine. I entered the embassy at 8 am and immediately one lady asked for interview letter and guided me to sit on a chair.
After half an hour my name was called to reach window 17 where she gave me ds 230 and 156 forms to sign in front of her and asked me who is inviting me to US , i replied my fiancee, than she asked her name, -then she gave me a form where I had to write name of my fiancee in English, I did that. Then she returned me some docs (emails, snap, phone records, card) that were submitted by me to VFS. Then she asked me for my pass port and medical report. And then she asked me to deposit the fee at window no.7. I went to window no.7 and gave drafts worth Rs.4800/- but he told me they need DD for Rs. 4600/- only and advised me to make another draft and that I cud reach back by upto 12.30pm, it was 8.45 am at that time.
I came out of embassy where my father was present and apprised him of developments. We then hired an auto to go to malcha marg for a new DD. Auto wala offered us that he cud get a new draft in 10 min but charges were too high so we decided to go to Malcha marg, where luckily ICICI Bank branch was open and we have an account in ICICI bank, jaipur. They made our required draft in 5 minutes and we returned to Embassy by 9.10 am and deposited the fee. I had to deposit the receipt of fee at window 17, where I found a gentelman this time, he took the receipt and shared a joke with me and then asked me to sit at waiting hall chairs.
Then my name was announced at 11.30 am to reach to window 14, where an american consulor was present. After exchanging hello he asked me If I was comfortable with English, I said yes. Then he asked me for my finger prints of left & right hand by placing index finger on a device at window. After this he asked me to take an oath by repeating his words. The oath - I swear in the name of GOd that everything i say will be true and correct and I will not hide anything.
After this he asked me few questions-
1.Is this my first marriage
2. Is this first marriage of my wife too---I replied yes 1st marriage of my fiancee too.
3. How did you meet.
4. is it an arranged marriage
5. How your parents know each other.
6. how long have we known each other
7. Why didn't we marry in india
8. Why did we wait so long to get married (2 yrs after we first met)
9.Asked for the photos we have
10. pointed at snap of hospital and asked what had happened --I explained.
He said---OK Sir, You will get your passport and Visa in a week's time.
Then I asked him-Sir, I have a small question- What is the validity of Visa- How long can i stay maxm in india before flying to US ---He replied 6 months.
And then I came out of embassy and it was only 11.45am by that time.
All person at embassy were good natured and nice- and talked very nicely.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
