I have to say the harrasment level was zero. I went in the Permanent resident queue at the passport control and gave my visa packet to the immigration officer. They led me to a seperate room where I waited for may be 10 minutes. I then had to fill out a short form and had my fingerprint taken (using ink). My passport was then stamped and that was it!!!! Nothing to worry about. |

I attended my interview on the 3rd April 2007. My appointment time was 9.30.a.m but I arrived by 7.00.a.m! Sounds early I know and I was first in the que but within 30 mins 18 people were queuing behind me. They let us in at 7.30.a.m! So it is well worth getting there very early. After going through the security booth you walk right round the side of the embassy and in some double doors. There is a desk in front of you and the person there will give you a ticket adn tell you to go and sit in a waiting area. My ticket was stamped with my number 001 and time of 7.33.a.m.
After about a 15-20 min wait I was called to desk 14 and my papers were taken. Passport, DS230, Photos, Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate. I had a whole heap of bank statements which they didn't ask for which surprised me. I then had my finger prints scanned and was given a form and told to wait in the waiting area. I waited for around an hour looking anxiously at the screens and listening form my number to be called. Then I went to window 15 where an American gentleman who was very friendly dealt with the interview and took my fingerprints again. He asked me where I met my wife? What she did for a living? Where she was? Why didn't she come to the interview with me? and a few other questions. He was very relaxed and only asked one question about the finances in the Affidavit in Support, are they joint assets? After that he asked when I intended to travel and gave me back my X-ray and told me everything was in order and to go and pay the courier. He then said to have a nice trip to the US 
I paid the courier and got the upgrade for £5.00 for delivery before 12.pm. I was finished by the time my appointment should have started!
It is no where near as bad as you think it will be! Just make sure you prepare your papers properly. I had 12 months bank statements etc which were not required but I was pleased to have them just in case. Our petition went through the NVC so I assume it had been approved and so the financial issue were less significant. You will no doubt need proof of you financial situation and it is required on the packet 4 information so make sure you have it with you. I don't think my experience in that regard is typical. I even had proof of having just closed on the purchase of our condo just in case. I also had proof of our relationship as you just don't know what you will be asked.
My advice just be over prepared and try not to worry too much!
