I had my interview on July 2nd. I arrived at the embassy a little after 7am and lined up at the sign for American citizens/immigrant visa interviews. Not long after that the guards started calling people up to the window one by one from the other line, when people who arrived there after me started walking up I asked the guard if I should be walking up now or if I had to wait until all of them have gone through security and he said I should walk up next. I had to show him my passport, he asked whether I had any liquids (I had a can of soda) and asked to see the bottoms of my shoes, then another guard on the inside took my phone, headphones and charger and gave me a little token to hand back in when I leave.
After that I went inside the consulate where a very cheerful guard asked me how can he help me today, I told him I'm here for a fiance visa interview and he guided me to window G. There I talked to a guy who asked for most of my papers, birth certificate translation (and original), police records, affadavit of support with other evidence of income, proof of our relationship... he did not ask for my Personbevis nor up to date letters of intent even though our NOA2 expired on June 8th. After that he told me to take a seat and they would call my name for the interview and gave the pamphlet about domestic violence and general visa information to read in the mean time.
After about 5 minutes or so, my name was called over the speakers and I was directed to window D. The interviewer was a very pleasant guy, first he made me read out loud the oath about telling the truth in the interview and then he asked the usual questions: how did you meet? When did you first meet in person? Has he been here in Sweden? What does he do for a living? When did he propose and what did you say? What do you plan on doing for work in the US?
All in all it was a very pleasant experience and he said we have a very strong case, the only thing that they didn't like was that the translation of my birth certificate wasn't an original - I couldn't find a local translator so I ordered a translation from a company that does them online, so my translation was signed, scanned, emailed to me and then I printed it out. So now I just have to mail them an original and he said it would be approved then!
All in all it was a really nice experience, the embassy employees seemed kind and competent, and I was done with the interview about 5 minutes before the scheduled time (8.30). |
