Event Description

Embassy Review : My husband and I married 12/01. We submitted an I130 petition (spouse) January 28 and an I129f (K-3) February 2nd. They were both approved at NVC at the same time. The 129F was supposed to administratively close. It did not. It moved on to Santo Domingo. I received a letter requesting I make an appointment for interview. I did. Purchased my flight and asked if there was any way I could have the 129F interview serve as the I130 interview and wait for the paperwork to arrive so my husband could come on the spouse visa. Santo Domingo expedited the I130 in 48 hours.

Our interview was scheduled for 7am. We arrived at the new consulate at 6:45am. Waited online for about 15 minutes. Went through security check (no cell phones, etc. etc.) Entered into the waiting room for resident visas. Our number was 177. They were up to 118.

At about 8am (45 minutes) - we were called to window 15. The lady was very nice - and RUSHING. It was as if she had to process each couple / family within a set amount of time. She stared at her screen as she asked questions.

To my husband: What is your name? Why do you have two cases? I explained. I asked if she had our I130 paperwork. She said - oh yes - you're the one with the expedite. She said let me go get your paperwork. Turned to a bin behind her and pulled our file. She asked if we were married before. No. If we had children together. No. She asked for paperwork - rattled of the list of the civil documents. I began to give them to her and she tapped on the desk for me to move faster - Medical records - do you have your medical records. I gave her our marriage certificate, his birth certificate, police clearance, passport, DS260 confirmation and yes, the medical records.

She explained that we had to pay the visa fee (never paid online because it left NVC so fast) at window 31 ($325) and return with both receipts. We walked over to window 31. Were next in line. Paid the fee. Returned to her window and handed in our receipt. She asked us to sit and wait to be called for the interview.

We sat and waited for less than 10 minutes. We were called to window 17. A young man asked us to raise our hands and swear to tell the truth. He asked our names. If we had been married before. If we had children together. To my husband - how did we meet. Missions. Did you go on missions or did she. She came here on missions. How many times has she visited you since and when was the last time she came. My husband must have gotten nervous. He answered - she's here right now. He chuckled and said - but does she live here - I answered for him and said no. He asked when was the time I visited before now. He answered about two months ago. I said July. What did you do when she came. He answered - we usually go to the beach - Samana - Punta Cana. Is that what you did in July - I answered - no - we stayed home and went to the beach in Palenque. He laughed. He asked me if my husband had family in the US - No. Do you have children. Yes. How old is she? One more question before I approve you - have you read the document on Domestic Violence. I took the document and said I did - don't worry - I won't abuse him. He laughed again and told my husband that once he arrived to the US he would be treated like a US citizen and has the same rights - including the right to report domestic violence.

He then said - congratulations - your visa has been approved. Handed us a white photocopy and told us the visa would be ready in 2-3 weeks.

Throughout this whole process we were blessed. I can only say God expedited these papers!!! Thank you Lord!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
