Consulate Review: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : August 4, 2015
Embassy Review : I had my interview at 13:30 and arrived at 13:15. You leave all your belongings at the security desk, except for your wallet and paperwork. And yes, bring no electronic devices!

I had to wait for about 13:45 to take fingerprints and hand over the following items:
* Birth certificate + a copy
* Verklaring goed gedrag + a copy
* 2 US style passport photo's
* Form I-134 (+ supporting materials)

Getting my fingerprints right was difficult as I had dry hands. The Dutch lady at the counter was very friendly to me, but the next guy apparently showed up with wrong documents and I heard her giving him hell like your strictest school teacher.

The interview was pleasant and quick. Before the interview, you take fingerprints again and you swear to tell the truth with your hand raised. My interview questions were
* where did you meet?
* when did you first meet?
* is your fiancé divorced?
* is this your first marriage?
* how often have you travelled to the United States?
* did he meet your parents?
* do your parents like him?
* there is an age difference, can you reflect on that? (I'm 28 and my fiancé is 43)
* where will you two live?
* what's your fiancé's occupation?
* what kind of work will you do in the future?

There was small talk in between and I even had time to ask some questions on the steps following the marriage.
My visum was approved and I was done a little later than 14:00. It took 4 days before I had the visum in hand (there was a weekend in between and the consulate was still recovering from a technical problem that occurred the previous month).

One thing I found confusing is that http://usvisa-info.com kept giving me the status 'check D-260 status', which was odd because K1 visa applicants fill in a D-160 form only. I read online you shouldn't pay attention to this weird status, and I can confirm this.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
