Embassy Review : |
The visa interview process went very smoothly! Despite being greeted by gloomy skies and a light mist of morning rain, we arrived at the embassy just around 7AM. There were just a couple of people in line ahead of us. Since there was no real direction about line formation, we just stood there until the guards showed up around 7:30 to enforce a proper single-file formation. Of course, we ensured we were near the front of the line since we had been waiting. (*note - you DO need to be a bit nice-aggressive with the other people in line because they will try to cut and push*). We had a 7:40 AM appointment and were called to the front of the line, given a card (#1), and sent inside. We went through your basic metal detector process, sent down a set of stairs, and into a waiting room. From previous reviews I have read, I knew exactly what to expect. The advice about sitting/standing near the elevator is true. Once the guard opened the elevator to allow people in, we made sure we quickly entered and stood as close to the rear of the elevator as possible (the back of the elevator becomes the front once you hit the 19th floor). The elevator ride seemed very long, but once the fdoors opened, we hopped off and had a seat in the large waiting room which has a TV, a few vending machines, and some toys for kids to play with. It looks like your typical lackluster welfare office that was last renovated shortly before the Carter administration (just sayin'). Walls are mushy pea-gray color with complimentary flooring. After about a 5 minute wait, we were seen by the first office as he took a few items from our prepared paperwork and had us take another seat and wait for the actual interview which took place about 20 minutes later. The interview was extremely painless - my fiance was asked about 5 questions like when, how, and where we met, when we got engaged, and where I live. I was asked about my employment and income. After that, we were done. We were never asked to see any pictures, check stubs, statement from employer - just passport, birth certificate, police clearance, 2 photos, medical report, affidavit of support, and letter of intent. After the 7 minute interview, my fiance was given his welcome letter and we both grinned like fat kids with cake. We left via the same elevator, down to the RC level, and back through the crowd of desperate applicants who were waiting in the rain to get inside, smiling the whole way. Happy as can be, we floated all the way back down rue St-Alexandre toward our hotel, despite the rain and chilly breeze. My cell phone read 8:54AM when we got back to our room - the whole process was about an hour long. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
