At the Airport:
He gave package to the officer at the air port. Was asked to take a seat and waited about 15 minutes. The officer called him over and said:"Is your wife here in Chicago?" My husband answered, "She lives in Indiana but is here in Chicago to pick me up." The officer said, "Welcome to United States of America!"

We arrived 30 minutes early for the interview on the 3rd floor of the USCIS building in Chicago. The woman at the check-in was unpleasant but you are only with her briefly. We sat and waited for my husband’s number to be called. The interviewer called him about 45 minutes later. He too was a naturalized citizen whose English was hard for my husband to understand. He took him back by himself to a room for the interview. They sat quietly for about 30 minutes while the man looked over the case. (We had compiled a huge binder of original documents and other documents that were required for the interview.) After 30 minutes the interviewer asked if he had ever been denied a Visa from the embassy in Cairo. He had because we were not aware that you couldn’t get a travel visa while trying to obtain a immigration visa. He answered honestly and the interviewer said we will send you your oath information in the mail. The website was updated that night to Congratulations. The next day his oath ceremony was scheduled for July 4th. |

Embassy Review : |
The embassy in Cairo has certainly pushed the limitations of ones patience. However, during the entire process they were helpful, responsive to my congress liaison, lawyer and myself. Most of the questions asked were generally answered quickly albeit very vaguely. The AP for our case took a total of 9 months and the case wait time since day one took almost 18 1/2 months. I like many USCs would like to see a far more transparent process both of the central agencies and their peripheries. I strongly believe this is not the fault of those at the embassy level but is the fault of vague laws, procedures, and processing produced/done via the central US government. All in all just be as prepared as possible: with even more evidence than required and make sure you're mentally prepared for what seems to be the inevitable AP! If you are lucky enough to avoid AP count your blessings! |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
