My interview was scheduled for 2 NOV, 8:30am.
I went there at around 7:30am by taxi. Had a coffee and breakfast at Pacific which is opposite the consulate. There were more than 20 people waiting in line by 8am already so I decided to join them.
After the security check, the guards directed me to go upstairs and turn right where the Immigrant Service Unit is at.
The lights were still off and the counters were all closed at 8:15. I was the first one.
Surprising I bumped into a friend that I had not met for years there. He was there for his fiance visa. What a small world!
Seemed there were quite a lot of 8:30am interviews and I was not the first name they called.
It's pretty awkward as you can literally hear the whole interview of others when you are waiting for your turn.
I was first called by a Chinese man. He asked me to hand over the documents and I asked him to select some because I got piles and piles of materials with me. It was kind of a mistake because some documents/files/albums were too thick that they could not get through the space underneath the window. So he only took some.
Then a Chinese lady called my name again. I met her there before and she was the one who handled my case as mine was expedited. So I actually had gone there to pick up my letter in person before the interview (the normal way would be sending the letter to the applicants). She was shocked to see me bringing lots of documents. Well I was scared by the horrible stories shared here. And I do not really regret doing that because it's better to be overly-prepared than the other way around.
The Chinese lady asked me some simple questions in Cantonese which I can't remember now haha. They were really basic questions, not tricky at all.
The waiting was the longest. I was talking to my friend while waiting. All the cases before me were approved. It was a Caucasian lady who was in charge of the final interview.
She took my fingerprints and asked me to vow before the interview.
She asked when and how I met my husband. I guess I was not being direct enough and she actually stopped me and asked me to give her a straight and short answer. Now I understand why because she needed to type out the answers in the computer immediately. So try to make your answers as short and accurate as you can.
After a few questions, I was approved. It lasted within 5 minutes.
And I had been waiting for 15 months, just for this 5 minutes. |
