Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 9, 2015
Embassy Review : When I got to the Consulate, there wasn't a "line" for K1 Visa; I just went to a cop and asked him where to go. He then called someone to come pick me up and this guy took me to the entrance and then pointed me where to go.
After getting to the second floor, Alex (yes, the famous Alex) will ask you to sit down and, since they changed the interview booking and visa payment systems, he'll give you two pieces of paper; one you'll fill out with some information like address (your own city, your fiancé(e)'s and the one in Rio) phone numbers and RDJ number. The other piece of paper with all the documents in a specific order - do your best to have ALL your documents filled out correctly, organized in a separate folder and follow all instructions you'll receive via email and online. This will save you a lot of time (possibly make your overall interview time way faster) and make Alex really happy!

After this you'll be called to a window where someone will look through your documents, make sure everything is correct once again and confirm some personal information. If everything is correct here you'll sit down again and wait for your interview.

The consul will call your name and you'll enter a small room. She'll be sitting with all your documents, the ones that you just brought with you and the ones the petitioner sent to USCIS. She'll ask you to sign a couple papers and basic questions like how did you meet, have you been to the US and when did you start dating.
The interview itself is very easy. She'll only ask you questions that are easy to answer if you are in a real relationship. Also with this new system you don't have to pay your visa fee or your correios fee so you don't have to be running around paying for stuff.

If your documents are organized and everything is in order, it WILL be super easy.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
