First of all, I got approved. I think. I received the «Welcome to USA» sheet from the interviewer.
My experience started very smoothly. I live in Montreal, so I woke up early and went to the Consulate around 7am (my interview was scheduled at 7:40am).
I received number 2. Waited in the wait area with other people for 8 o'clock so we can go upstairs with the elevator. On floor #19, there was another waiting room. I was called first. A girl asked me for my address and address in the US. I couldn't remember the apartment number. Me sure you memorize that address because she told me : «Please remember if it's number 3 or 6 because if you cannot remember you cannot have the visa!» Hopefully, I had a proof of address in my binder and I could check it out.
Then she took :
- birth certificate
- divorce papers
- police record
- my pictures, I-134 and taxes papers and bank account papers (NOT the I-864)
- A PRINT OF MY PASSPORT (which I had with me just in case because it wasn't writing anywhere to bring it with you. You can print in there for 1$).
- letter to intent to marry from petitioner
They took my finger prints and that's it.
I went back into the waiting room. Was call again for the «interview».
The guy was not very pleasant. First, I couldn't hear him. The volume level was too low. He was annoyed when I told him I wasn't able to hear. I was asked to read a statement to assure I was gonna tell the truth.
First questions :
- Who is filling for you ? -> Fiancé
-What's up with that guy -> ??? You mean his name, his profession ?
-I mean I have 18 court judgement here in front of me. Who is that guy? What's wrong with him?
I wasn't aware of that. It was mostly because he didn't do his taxes for 6 years and received several letter asking to pay.... it was creditor
-Do you know him well? -yes blablabla. We lived together blablabla
-Well maybe you shouldn't marry him?! -Well I didn't know about that. I'll have a talk with him....
-How old is he? How old are you?
-How did you meet him?
-How did he propose?
-What are you plans for the wedding?
-What's up with the «chevron» tattoo? (I had a kids tattoo on my wrist... -it's a just kids tattoo for fun.
Then he looked at my real tattoo for a minute... my tattoo is just a thick black line around my arm.
-You should check it out. I'm afraid he might not be able to support you....
And then he threw me the «Welcome to USA» paper saying welcome to USA. You'll receive you visa in two weeks. And if you still want to marry him by then you can follow the other steps...
He never asked to see my pictures or anything.
I wasn't prepare for that.... he was so unpleasant he made that step bitter sweet. I was prepare to be happy about the Visa...
Anyway....
If anyone know where to find the Civil Court thing on my fiancé it would help. He was really surprise when I told him that because he was sure everything was in order... (he's a musician and was a little chaotic back then.)

Got interview at 10:30. We waited a little, 20 minutes. We were early though.
The guy called us. Was really friendly.
Questions related to husband and wife information :
Ask boyfriend his name, date of birth, our address.
Same questions for me plus parents name.
Asked our birth certificate, passport, driver's license. Wedding certificate and divorce certificate from last mariage.
Then asked personal questions :
Where we met. How he proposed. Where we lived before. Who was our roommate. Why do we love each other. Our pass work. Family.
He took a lot of notes. Asked for evidence of relationship. Brought some recent pictures that he did not keep and looked at our insurance, phone bill with both our number on the bill and lease. Which he did not keep either.
Told us he need some time to copy our passport and driver's license. We waited in the waiting room. Five minutes later, he came with a letter of approval.
Went smoothly and was natural, even if we were both nervous because it's THE FINAL STEP!
We were out at 11:15 |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
