My appointment was at 8.30, but arrived already at 7.45, just to be sure. I seemed to be the first to arrive in the immigration line and waited two minutes until the security guard waved at me to step up to the security check point.
Once through security, I entered the embassy - the guard gave me a number to wait to talk to the receptionist. After 15 minutes it was my turn, but the woman immediately said "you're immigration, just go up to window number 7". (I thought that it was correct to just go to the window, but the guard basically stuffed the ticket in my hand the moment I stepped in, so figured maybe they had changed their procedure).
Well, at window number 7 I waited for a few minutes, then a very nice lady came up and started taking my paperwork. Apparently she didn't want any copies of anything, even though that's clearly stated in the e-mail, so my great folder organisation turned out to be not so smooth for her. Here I had spent so much time thinking about what way to organise it, so that they would be happy!
Anyhow, it went very fast and a few basic questions was asked. I had received a checklist from NVC stating that they wanted me to bring my husband's W-2s, but they had no information on that request at the embassy. She just shrugged, laughed and said that she'd take them anyway, but that they probably wouldn't need them. Then she told me to have a seat and wait for my name to be called for the real interview.
After about 25 minutes my name was called and I stepped up to window number 4 where a very nice man greeted me. He asked a few questions regarding where and when me and my husband had met, why I was in New York at that time, when I saw my husband last, where I had been working recently and what I planned to do in the States. He then asked "what are your wedding plans?", but quickly realised his mistake. He just laughed and quickly changed track, saying "well, I am gonna go ahead and approve this, and you'll have your passport and immigration packet in about two weeks!".
Overall they are very nice at the Stockholm embassy. I went there before to get a "true copy" of my passport to apply for the ITIN, and it was just as smooth. Especially with the male CO it was very pleasant, his questions did not feel scripted, nor did he ask them in an investigative way - almost like talking to a stranger at a party who just wants to know a bit about who you are. |
