Consulate Review: Ukraine
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 21, 2015
Embassy Review : My fiancee's experience was very similar to many of the Kiev embassy reviews here. I was not able to attend the interview and so I am recounting from her verbal description afterward.

She arrived around 8:00 a.m. for her 8:30 appointment. Waited only for a short amount of time outside the embassy before being admitted to the security area. She waited for a about 10 minutes and then was called up by a very friendly consulate employee who made her feel very at ease. To this woman she submitted the requested documents.

After another 10-15 minute wait she was called the the consulate window and was sworn-in and was given the option to speak English, Russian, or Ukrainian. She chose Russian because when she gets nervous her English suffers. The consul asked my (petitioner's) name, what I do for a living, how many times I visited, and how we met. There was a little confusion with the last question because she replied "through the agency." Describing the common Ukrainian dating agencies who then post her profile to various international dating sites. However this prompted the consul to ask, "was it official?" I think he was implying: was this a marriage broker? But she didn't understand. After she explained a bit it became apparent that she was describing a dating site and not an International Marriage Broker (the source of so much confusion!).

Since our petition did fall under the domain of IMBRA (I had a marijuana and DUIs arrests on my record) he did ask her if she understood the risks involved and asked if she had read the document which they provide which describes resources available to her if her situation in the U.S. turns abusive. She explained that she understood and was confident that these issues were in the past.

After this she was congratulated and was done with the entire process in about 1.5 hours. She was elated and relieved as she was very nervous that they were going to ask her many, many questions despite my assurances that Kiev is not known for grilling people.

Today is a good day.)
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
