My K-1 interview was scheduled last month at the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I went there early at 9am for document submissions and I was attended by a middle aged lady. As I was handing in my documents, she kept asking for unnecessary things not directly pertaining to the documents at hand. At first she asked for an original copy of the DS-160 confirmation page.I mentioned the 'original' was a printed version which I have submitted in the previous packet as well as the one I brought with me. Then she was mumbling to herself how much it was hard to scan the barcode on a printed copy. Second part, she asked for the Xray film of my medical checkup. I politely told her that I do not have the Xray film as the GP at the panel clinic told me to only bring along the white sealed envelope to the interview and that everything will be enclosed in there. She rudely asked me "Then how are we even supposed to see the xray" I handed her over the letter containing the instructions the panel GP who did the checkup for me. It clearly stated there to ONLY bring the sealed white envelope to them. She went silent after that and started opening up the packet. Third, (ok, this part was because of my carelesness)she reprimanded me about the the size of my photos. I brought in international passport photo sizes instead of the 2inch sizes meant for US visa. I apologized to her for my carelessness as she went on "We gave clear instructions in there and you could not even follow simple instructions". That did not make me feel good in the morning a few hours before my interview. I apologized to her again and made way to the nearest photo booth to get my picture retaken since my interview was only scheduled after lunch break.
I came back after lunch break and handed in my newly taken photos.she took them without a word, and yes I apologized again for all the inconvenience. I felt discouraged after that since her first impression of me was totally a bad one. (I assumed she was the one who would be carrying out the interview)
A moment later, I was called to give my biometrics and then be seated again.
Fortunately, my number was called an hour later and to my surprise my interviewer appeared to be a nice young gentleman. He was very polite and made me really comfortable. My nervousness just went away as we started talking very casually. After a few simple questions pertaining my relationship with Jason, he requested for pictures as proof of our relationship and during my visit there. At the end, he said "congratulations, i am approving your visa. good luck in the US!" I was overjoyed with the response since it had been a really long journey for us. I would rate this experience a good one since the interviewer made my day and was being very helpful and nice to me, despite the unpleasant experience beforehand with the other officer. |
