I walked out of Bond Street at 6:50am and walked to the consulate. After reading reviews I wanted to get there nice and early, even if it was bitterly cold. As I approached the consulate, I was surprised to see I wasn't the first arrival. I asked a security guard that I was there for my K-1 visa interview and he told me to form a que with the 5 other people. As the minutes rolled by (very slowly) the que began to get bigger. By the time 7:20/7:30 the que was at least 100 strong. I would definitely suggest getting there at 7:00. At 7:35 staff members of the consulate came out and starting asking for people to get, 1. Interview letter. 2. DS-160 and 3. Passport ready for them to check the details and tick me on their list. I then was ushered towards security (which is exactly like airport security) they except tablets, phones but NOT LAPTOPS! Luckily I didn't bring one but the guy behind me did - from what I heard he had to leave and find somewhere to put it and rejoin the que. After that followed to the signs where I was issued with a number (exactly like when you go to the passport office) I then sat down in the waiting room in front of a massive screen, showing various clips of the beautiful country that is America. At around 8:10/8:15 my number was called. I was the 5th person called up and was greater by a lovely lady who asked me for some documents. After about 5/10 mins she told that everything was fine, to sit down and wait for your number to be called again. This for me was the worst part of the whole experience as the time seem to drag! On the other hand I was thinking, I have waited 5 months to get to this point. 10 more minutes won't kill me  then finally I was called up for the second and final interview. Counter 15....longest walk of my life, as I got to the booth (it's like a bank counter) I took the oath and she asked some questions. "Tell me about your relationship" "What does she do for work" "Do you both have any kids" "What do I do for work" "When do you plan on getting married"
Then those famous words that mean more than anything. "Congratulations, you have been approved" she then said your visa will be delivered within 5-14 days but because it's Christmas it might be delayed. That was it and I walked out the consulate with the biggest smile on my face.
I can sit here till I'm blue in my face saying don't be nervous and relax but it's human nature and it's hard to overcome. I was nervous even though I had nothing to worry about. |
