My K1 visa interview was on Aug 14, 2014 at 9:15 AM. I reached the Mumbai Consulate in Bandra Kurla Complex area at 8:45 AM. We had to initially wait outside the main gate. Within a few minutes a representative called us in after checking our appointment letters.
There was a quick security check after which we were sent in. Inside there was a waiting area with two separate sections for Immigrant visa applicants and Non-immigrant visa applicants. I joined the Immigrant visa group. Five minutes later, the Immigrant visa group was sent in to the main building.
A ground officer issued token numbers to us.
I remained seated while a ground officer came up and asked for a couple of my documents (passport, PCC, medical report envelope, birth certificate and DS 160) and then arranged them in a certain order, pinned them and gave them back to me to hold.
There was a screen displaying token numbers. There were around 16 or 18 counters. The ten counters to the left were for document verification while the remaining ones to the right were for the Interview.
When my number appeared on the screen along with the counter number, I walked up to the Officer for document verification. I submitted the pinned bunch of documents that I was holding. The Officer went through the documents, then asked me if I had paid the visa fees and asked for the payment receipt. She then opened the envelope with my medical report. She added all the documents to a file that she had for my case. Then she asked me where in the US my fiance lives and my language of preference for the interview. After that she handed over that case file to me and asked me to wait for my turn for interview.
I went back to my seat and waited till my token appeared on the screen once again. This time for the interview. I walked up to the Interview counter. There was an American lady Consular officer. She viewed my file for a while and then asked me a couple of questions:
What is your fiance's full name?
Is it a love or arranged relationship?
How did you meet your fiance?
When did you guys tell your parents about your relationship?
If you got engaged two years ago, why is he filing for your K1 fiance visa after so long?
You both took a trip together last year, were your families ok with that?
And that was it. She asked me to place my left hand on the fingerprint sensor for verification and then said, "Ok, your visa is approved. You will receive your passport at your pickup location in the next couple of days". |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
