Event Description

Embassy Review : I arrived at the Consulate at 5:00 am. They opened the gates to begin our security around 6:30 am to 7:00 am. I had to wait in line for about 30 minutes before I reached the security check. They checked my documents and searched me and they used the wand to ensure I was safe for entry.

We sat in an enclosed area, but not completely closed and completed some forms. Then they collected our passports and our interview letter and tagged the passport for K-1 Visa. Then we were asked to go to another building and then we went through scanner. We I went through the scanner the first time it beeped so they asked me to remove my belt and my shoes and put them in a container for them to run through scanner. I then had to re-enter the scanner and there were no beeps this time. So I retrieved my belt and shoes and then I went into the interview hall. There were many people waiting for interviews. There are separate sections for the immigrant and non-immigrant visa's.

After about one hour of waiting my number was called to window 19 and there I was asked to submit my documents, including my medical report. Then she handed me all the files we submitted to the USCIS. Then she gave me another form to sign which stated I must not marry until I get to the U.S. and once I marry the K-1 Visa becomes invalid and must not be used. I was also given a form to sign for selective service because I am still within the age required to sign by law by the U.S. which states if the U.S. is called to a war front I might be called upon to serve.

After another one hour I was called to Window 21 to provide my fingerprints. Then again, I waited another approximately 2-3 hours and then the African-American at Window 20 called my name to come forward. He asked me to raise my right hand and he swore me in. Then the interview started and he asked me the following questions:

Who petitioned for me?
When was the first time we made contact?
When was the first she came to Nigeria?
What date did she land in Nigeria?
What date did she depart Nigeria?
Why hasn't she returned since 2016?

Then he began looking over the documents and said we would need to submit some additional documentation. Then he gave me the White Sheet and listed the necessary documents. He stated once we obtained those documents then they will review it and then email me to drop my passport.

That concluded my interview.
Rating : Very Good
