We had our Interview on July 31st 2014. I was very nervous and stressed out, mostly because of my 3+ years overstay.
We drove from Alabama to Atlanta, it took us about 3 hours to get there. We arrived at 7:30. The interview was at 9:45. We drove to the building to see where it was exactly and get a glimpse of it. We decided to get breakfast at Subway which was next to Publix across from the Northlake Mall maybe 2 minutes away. Then we got us some Starbucks which was close as well and at about 9 we drove back, went through security check. The guys were very nice and patient (It took me a while to take off all my jewelry, I was nervous and it took even longer than normal.....had to calm down a little bit). I had to take my shoes off, my husband didn't. Don't know why. Then we went to the receptionist to sign in, she gave us the receipt and we took the elevator to the second floor. There were about 20 people already waiting. We signed in at 9:01. At about 9:50 somebody came and exchanged our receipt, the gave us the wrong one when we first got there. So the new receipt was just printed out and stated that we signed in at 9:52. Basically we were waiting for almost one hour for no reason. I didn't like that at all but I guess there's nothing we could do about it, I didn't want to make a scene or anything.. We just waited until they called our number. Everybody who arrived after us was called before us and that was just irritating. At about 12:15 we were called by the man I saw earlier and told my husband that I hope we don't end up with him because he looks mean and doesn't smile haha. At the end I was happy it was him because he was very professional and nice. We couldn't get a smile out of him but I'm sure that was because he has to make a decision.
He asked for our IDs (didn't have my US ID yet since my passport is expired I couldn't get my SSN with my EAD)
My name, where my husband was born and how far away it is from where we live now (I know where he was born but never been there and don't know how far it is since he doesn't have any family there.. he then asked my husband how far, he also didn't know and said he was just born there and his mom lives in our city)when did I meet my husband in person, about how and where we met online, my parents name, all the criminal questions, and for additional evidence. He didn't want to see photos or cards only our rent agreement, insurance and I printed out some facebook convos.
He asked my husband what I cook for him and what we did for our Anniversary that was in June (he didn't remember the name of the restaurant.. only what we ate, so then he asked me if that is true I said yes and the name of the restaurant.He also asked him if he had met my parents.
He never mentioned the overstay or anything.
He started working on the Computer and then just looked at me and said "It says on here you're approved". I said really and smiled and was happy. He explained I will not get the conditional greencard because we have had our second anniversary (I didn't let him finish talking... my bad. I said "3 Years" and he was kind of just ignoring it. I shouldn't have done that) I will get the 10 year greencard and I now can get rid of my husband and we laughed and I said noooo and grabed my husbands hand haha.
So besides the mess up from the receptionist it was a good experience. His name was Tom Lawyer I believe at the end I was happy it was him. It was easy and took maybe 10-15 minutes. I think if your marriage is real they will know and it should not be difficult.
I messed up a couple of times when he asked my husband a question and I would just answer it probably shouldn't have. Also at the end I said "well that was easy", shouldn't have said that either but my mouth is always faster than my brain haha.
A lot of couples had Lawyers there but we didn't and I'm happy we didn't since it would have been waisted money.
I tried to figure out for days what we should wear, and I saw everything. From short skirts to long dresses, sandals and jeans to business wear. Nobody was wearing suits and ties though.
