Consulate Review: Costa Rica
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 17, 2014
Embassy Review : We arrived for our 12:00pm interview at about 11:50pm, and only had to wait about 5 minutes before we were called to the window to begin handing over our packet 3 contents. The woman asked for the DS-160, visa-sized photos, the affidavit of support and all supporting documents, and evidence of our relationship. We had it all ready, so had no problem with this part of the process at all. My fiancé then was asked to go to the cashier to pay the $265 fee, and then we were both asked about 4-6 questions which were normal (Where did you meet? What was it like? How long have you been dating? How many times have you visited each others countries? Do you know each others families? etc.) We were then asked to wait for the officer for the final interview.

The officer called us over and took my fiancé's fingerprints, and then asked us about 10 more questions that were very similar to the ones asked previously. He also asked questions about what we both do for work and where we plan to live when my fiancé gets to the States. He then asked when I would be returning to the States (On Sunday, three days away), and he said he was so sorry that he wouldn't be able to get us the Visa by then, as he always likes to try to let the couples go back to the states together. We said that would be no problem since we were going to wait a couple months before making the move. He then just said, Congratulations! You've been approved! And then we freaked out!

Very simple and quick process - such a relief that it's over!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
