On arrival asked an agent which line to enter and they said the visitor line. The agent there processed a few things and took my fingerprints digitally before telling my wife that this process would take a while and that she should collect our bags and wait downstairs at baggage claim.
I was then sent to desk 74 which appears to be for processing all new immigrants. They took a physically fingerprint of my index finger there using black ink on two sides of a particular form, and also had me sign my signature in a box. After that it was sit around for about 20 minutes while he processed some stuff at his desk. After that i was called his desk and he gave me my completed passport including entry stamp with my alien number on the stamp, and a note explaining what the stamp could be used for, and that my green card would arrive in 4-6 months. |

Embassy Review : |
My wife and I turned up to the Consulate, and she was allowed to come in with me. Passing through security I wasn't allowed to bring pens, phones, xray CD, tables, etc any further. Phones and tablets were to be switched off. The security staff were very helpful, however they did have another totally unknown name registered next to my name :S
Going through the heavy door on the 59th floor, the ticket machine was on the wall opposite (about 2m from the doorway), and then we parked ourselves in the Non-Citizen waiting area. This area seemed to be rather hot due to the amount of people in there.
After 10 minutes or so we were called to the first window to chat with a nice Australian lady who wanted my passport photo, envelope, and an update co-sponsored AoS (which I was expecting). She also gave me my original civil documents back as well before we took a seat again.
While waiting to be called up for the interview proper, we had the opportunity to scope out the interviewers working on the day as they questions other candidates. One American interviewer in particular (whom we called "The guy at window 6" appeared rather abrupt with people, asking them short and sharp questions. So much so that we were dreading having him as our interviewer. In one instance he did ask a gentleman what the DOBs of his kid were. The poor guy umm'd and ahhh'd a lot, however he was approved in the end. Not the situation you want to be in!
We could hear an American female interviewer from the citizenship side of the consulate who was very pleasant and kind, and had our fingers crossed for her. However it was not to be. We ended up with Mr Window 6 who shuffled my papers, lost one of my AoS's before finding it hiding behind the other. He asked me when we got married, and after I responded with the exact date, he wanted to know how many years ago it was... o.0 Odd that he couldn't count, but I guess he was testing to see if I had a fake story that I had learnt off by heart.
After a few more shuffles of the papers he said that my visa was approved!! We returned home feeling ecstatic! The next day I received an email saying that my visa was approved and the steps to take next (paying the last USCIS fee for the greencard on the USCIS ELIS website). I received the passport with visa in the the day after (two days after the interview!). Huzzah! :D |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
