Comments : My dear spouse passed away 3 days after the 400 interview. He was unable to attend the possible 751 interview due to his serious illness and medical condition. I submitted my spouse's death certificate on 4/10/2018 converting the joint 751 application to widow application. On 4/26/2018, USCIS approved my 751 application.

Comments : My dear husband unfortunately passed away 3 days after the 400 interview, which I passed. Naturalization was expected to be denied due to the passing of my American citizen spouse. However, USCIS may have granted my request to grant the expedited ceremony based on humanitarian ground. Even though my attempt to request the expedited 400 approval at the interview while my husband was still alive wasn't approved, they did accept the request at the interview, but a decision could not be made due to my pending 751 status. I submitted my husband's death certificate two weeks later after the interview, my 751 was approved on 4/26/2018, and I was subsequently naturalized on 5/23/2018.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
