Embassy Review : So that was much more pleasant than we had anticipated!
Our appointment was at 8am… got to the embassy at about 7.20 and there was already about 20 people in line. Though it wasn't clear, there was two lines and you had to line up on the left to check in with a nice lady which then sent us to the line on the right. I was accompanying my fiance to his interview and she just assumed I was his wife, we corrected her and she like, “close enough javascript:emoticon('')!” Went through security, which was a breeze. I had picked up some breakfast sandwiches and juice and was nervous they would make me dispose them, but it was fine. Thank goodness cause I was starving! Checked in at the desk and sat in that huge room. Things moved pretty quickly from here. Was probably the 10th number called so waited maybe 15 minutes. Got the older Asian lady many people have mentioned on this board and she couldn't have been more pleasant! She was chatting to him about the Oscar Pistorious trial (as he was born in South Africa) and joking with us as I had to help him find some forms, etc. I had prepared a TON of stuff for financial support as I am currently living in the UK and earning foreign income so was really nervous about not having a US job already… but she ended up just taking my USD bank account letter (which had the current balance, amount deposited and date opened included) and that was it! I had an employment letter from my UK employer, 12 months of bank statements from both my USD and GBP account, my 401k statement, 2012-2013 income tax returns, and then all the same from him and they needed just the one letter! Oh the time spent wasted… but better safe than sorry. Oh also our petition had expired and I had to get it notarized in the UK ($220!!) but she said that wasn’t necessary (again such a waste!). Anyways we left her window at about 8.20 and were called to the interview at 8.50 and were greeted by a super nice lady who obviously loves her job! She said I am welcome to stay, but she will directing the questions towards him. I said as long as he remembers my birthday then I won’t chime in javascript:emoticon('') She asked a few standard questions, how we met, when and how did he propose, etc. Gave the few disclaimers about not opening the package, when the petition expires, when to expect the passport… took the dramatic pause and then said we were approved! We are traveling in 10 days, and she said we would have the option to courier our passport at a later time, but everything moved quicker than the estimate up until now so we are going to wait it out.
I am so relieved and now that i won't be preparing visa stuff all weekend (as i have for the past few months!) I think I will enjoy the nice weather and a celebratory ale!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
