POE was a breeze and was over so quickley without any issues at all. The Immigrations officer simply checked my papers were all in order at the finger print counter and I went straight through to collect my baggage. |

I decided to catch the red-eye from Perth at 12.05 a.m and set to land in Sydney at 6.05 a.m. My interview with the Sydney Consulate was set for 9.00 a.m 23rd September 2014. (I went with Qantas as they are very reliable with flights and do not have the cancellations reported by so many travellers on the "cheap" flights.
From the airport, I used the Airport Link-Train to St James Staton which was only about 15 mins. Walked out of the station onto Elizabeth Street, if you look skyward and to the left you will immediately see a hexagon cream shaped, very tall building. Thats the MLC building where the US Consulate is located. Is only a very short walk from the train station. Cross the road and go to the right, the next street on your left turn down and you will see and be on the street the MLC building is situated.
I arrived at the MLC Building just before 8.00 a.m with plenty of time before the interview. Do take the time to find the toilets on the lower level of the MLC building behind the escalators as there are none to use once you get to the 10th Floor where the Consulate is located. I headed up to the 10th floor at 8.30 a.m.
Security is tight, fast, friendly and efficient. The process is similar to going through security at the airport. They will store any electronic devices, USB's, bags ect at the security point and only allow you to continue to the 59th Floor with your paper work and your purse/wallet.
After going through the security check point procedure I had a short wait in a seated area of the security check area before being called over to the elevator by a security guard who told me which floor to get off. Once on the 59th floor there is another security point that checks your passport/identity before buzzing the final door to allow you into the consulate area where they also tell you to take a ticket and find a seat until called.
My wait time to be called was only about 10 mins if that. They call you by number to a window that reminds me of a bank tellers setting. The woman was very pleasant and asked me for the documents requested for interview. After checking my documents she asked me to take my seat again and wait to be called again.
The second wait for me was as quick as the first and found myself at another similar window with another friendly woman.
This woman asked me:
1. How did I meet my fiance?
2. When did he propose?
3. Asked about my previous marriage and the death of my husband? (USA Citizen)
4. Asked if my fiance had ever been to Australia?
5. How many times I had been to the USA.
6. What was my longest stay in the USA?
7. Did I intend to work in the USA?
8. What was my working background/career?
9. Asked questions relating to the I-134 as we have a joint sponsor.
10. How soon did I plan to travel to the USA?
I was relaxed and at ease with my answers, the interviewing woman was pleasant and smiled at me with many of my replies and before I knew it she was writing on a piece of paper that she handed to me and said your APPROVED and said congratulations. I was so caught off with how quickly it happened that tears sprung to my eyes and I got a little choked up. She only smiled and said your free to go we have finished!
Big happy dance and a phone call to my finace as soon as I hit ground floor and out the building. HERE WE COME VEGAS!
