Biometrics waived but they wont refund me the fee. Interview together with Naturalization in Jacksonville. I never received the letter indicating that the cases were combined but my husband came with me. I brought originals and copies of what I sent with my naturalization paperwork but not what I sent to my ROC process. Dumb me! He did ask me for the Tax transcript (didn't have these with me) and pictures or statement of friends about our relationship (never got these done) After that I got nervous, I thought they would have proof i sent on file already and trust I should know better. He asked me how we met and requested prior passport with J1 visas, about travel dates out of the country. Asked my husband when we got married, where and why there. Why we don't have kids yet. He verified his information and since he is military, he wanted to know if he ever got deployed and if we get POAs done while he is gone. |

See ROC interview above. Biometrics were done in New Orleans. Here I have to say that I applied under 319B so they give you the option to pick the office you want the process to go to. The closest one was Jacksonville. Now when I got to the interview and passed the answers I was told I didn't apply under B and that they would have to send this to the office that has jurisdiction over my area, Montgomery AL. I got my case updates and the Montgomery office has approved my case and I am on line for the oath ceremony. At the beginning of the interview, the officer was very serious but when asking me the yes/no questions he told me I needed to relax because I was acting weird and joke about it with my husband lol After that I laid back and felt a lot better. He asked me when was the constitution written and at first I gave him the Declaration of Independence date instead but when I realized it I told him "no wait" and he let me change my answer. They were really helpful at the Jacksonville office, everybody was courteous from the beginning, it was pretty empty that day which surprised me. On top of that our area was under the Hurricane Michael warning so it was such a journey to go to Jacksonville, they were not getting any bad weather so they were still open. Glad we made it but the way back took longer than usual since we had to go through all the affected areas by the hurricane :(
Oath ceremony will be in Pensacola FL, an hour away from where I live. |

And we got approved! I really want to share my experience with you guys.
About our case:
-I WENT TO MY INTERVIEW ALONE
-2 years, 4 months and a few days together
-He works in the Air Force
-I have been unemployed since December 2013
-I have traveled to the US three times as a J1
-He has been in Ecuador once and just for two weeks
I would like to tell you I have always had good experiences at the Consulate. Process for visas have improved over the years and the new building is really nice and bigger but i think they were more organized in the old one, because people did not have to stand waiting for so long and had to do many queues (for residence is not bad, you just have to do one queue but i am talking about other visas).
Anyways I would like to give a rate of 5 because everybody there were polite, even the security guards but I had a bad experience the firs time.
I had scheduled my interview for Sept 2nd at 13:30. I arrive 45 mins early. You have to say you are applying for residence, show your passport and tell them the time of your interview, go to the security guards where they check everything you have, get inside.. more security guards..then go to the second stage and say again you are there for a residence case and you go right after to the building where you will find more security guards lol and they tell you where to go.
I waited in the queue. It was my turn when i was supposed to give them my passport and some information BUT! guess what! They didnt find my file, They said they have received my case electronically but not physically, trust me this was unexpected and so frustrating because there was nothing i could do than just wait. They said they could start my process because of that and they were gonna call me when they received it (hopefully in a week) and give a new date for my interview.I was more worried about my paperwork getting lost or something like that. I think I got depressed and mi gringo was upset but oh well..
Next day, Sept 3rd! at 7:45 Consulate called me to tell me they had my file and If I could have the interview today at 10:30am.. OMG We were so excited!! And of course I said i didnt have any problem with that.
I think the first person who received my passport was from Ecuador, she made a few questions...
* His phone number
* How we met
* Any plans for wedding, when, where
* If he has been in Ecuador
* If my family has visa and if they were going to my wedding
* If we have had an engagement family reunion
Then i was sent to sit down and wait.. after a few mins the Consul called me and just asked me if I have been in the US before and for how long and if I have ever had any problem with the law here or there.. and that was all! she told me your visa has been approved! And I left with a huge smile in my face! )))
Btw they never asked me for any proof or document, I brought a lot! but they didnt ask me for anything!
I went alone to the interview, they didnt ask me why he wasnt with me or anything.. I think you have to try to go with your fiance/é but if you cant do not panic! Be confident, honest and prepared. As Ive writen, they didnt request any proof and they didnt ask me to explain them why he couldnt come, but every case is different right?! I do think proof we sent for our I-129 form helped, we sent a lot of documents and information.
Anyways I spent 1 hour and 15 mins, most of the time waiting in lines and about 10 mins with the first person and 5 mins with the Consul.
Good Luck to everybody
Andrea

Embassy Review : |
My future husband and I arrived together around 12pm. We waited in the tourist line , btw it was super full! So we waited at least one hour and a half to get through it. The officer was kind of weird, he didn't ask me anything, well just why i was coming to the US, then just started making jokes and comments about the process, i think some comments were inappropiate even though we looked like he was smiling and joking.. anyways, he took a picture and firgerprints after that we went to another room and waited there... while they were processing my file an officer called me and asked me about the address i was going to live in the US because we had one address when we started the process but my fiance moved, then he sent us to wait.. finally he called me again and asked me if i knew about the regulations and what i had to do after getting married and what i needed to do that, i answered and he gave me my passport back, wished me good luck and that was it. We spent around two hour and a half since we arrived, good thing our connecting flight was four hours later ... arrived safe and happy with my future husband! Finally together |

Timeline Comments: 2How very fortunate that this consular management was relatively capable. Ten years ago, attending the visa interview alone would have meant an absolutely automatic 221g or refusal. Nice details in your interview and POE write-ups!
Thanks. Yeah they are way better a the embassy and consulate nowdays.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
