So, our interview was Feb, 4, 2014. Our interview was at 8, we arrived at 730am. You have to wait for a man to come out of the consulate and give you a number. We were number 16. There are a good amount of people waiting in a line outside. They call you by number and you go through security. Once inside, you have to go to window 5 and hand in your police certificate as well as los antecedentes penales certificate. If you do not have those, YOU MUST RETURN LATER ON. So make sure you have those, even if you are in the states and have to go to Guatemala early to get your DPI and those documents. They do not accept the excuse that were in the states and couldn't get them.
After going to window 5, you are asked to sit and wait for your name to be called. Mind you, ALL INTERVIEWS ARE PUBLIC, with few exceptions, AND EVERYONE CAN HEASR WHAT YOU SAY AND WHAT THE INTERVIEWER IS TELLING YOU. The waiting area is in front of the booths. No privacy whatsoever. Some people were yelled at and demanded of, documents and what have you. Be prepared for that. Once your number is called, you go to the window assigned to you. We were interviewed by a man, not too old, with glasses. He asked us, where did we meet, how long had we been married, was my husband ever detained by immigration, and he looks at his waiver paper. He returned some documents to us, and reviewed the RFE, request for evidence, documents we had sent in January 2013.
HOWEVER!! We had sent our cosponsor papers a week before we received the appointment. I CALLED NVC and the CONSULATE and both told me the papers were there. THEY WERE NOT THERE!! I have not worked in a steady job for 3 years, so we knew we needed those papers. I realized that the interviewer didn't have them because I only saw my income tax info and he didnt ask me about our co sponsor. So I SPOKE UP and said where are my co sponsors documents? The interviewer said he didnt have them. I said, where are they because I filed them myself and sent them personally through the mail and called to assure myself they had arrived. I have the copies here, I told him. You have the copies, he said, then hand them to me, I believe you, dont worry. I handed them over, but I will be honest, I was upset and mad. If I hadnt brought every single document with me, my husband would have been denied. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EVERY SINGLE DOCUMENT WITH YOU, DONT LEAVE ANYTHING!! Another couple was denied because they didnt bring a copy of their sons birth certificate. They had to return with it on a other date.
Thank Jehovah, we were approved and we picked up our visa the next day. You go in and come out with a packet. We are still here now, we will be going home in about a week and a half. But please, please, please, DO NOT TRUST THEM AND BRING ALL COPIES!!! Hope you all get your approval. 😁 |
