Embassy Review : |
The process was as painless as all of the recent reviews have indicated.
Salvador and I arrived around 7:00 AM for our 7:40 interview. We were met outside the embassy and presented the letter Salvador received scheduling our interview. We were escorted inside, passed through the metal detector, then we were taken to the second floor waiting room where we received additional instructions and filled out a form asking for our contact information.
Our papers were then reviewed by a young man who made sure we had everything we needed and placed forms in the proper order. We waited our turn to be called to a window where our forms were collected, our data was entered into the computer system, and we were given the bill to take to the cashier.
We went down to the cashier, located on the first floor, to pay the fee. (Important note--K-1 visas must be paid in cash even though there was a sign saying that fees could be paid using an international credit card.)
We took the receipt back upstairs and gave it to the young man who put our papers in the correct sequence. We waited about an hour for our turn to be interviewed. The consular official was very friendly. He asked me, in English, where I lived (New Jersey), how many times I had been to Brazil to see Salvador, and later in the interview asked if Salvador and I planned to marry in New Jersey.
The rest of of the interview was conducted in Portuguese. He asked Salvador how we met, and then the name of the website when he said we met online. He asked Salvador how long ago we met, how we stayed in contact, and how many times I had come to Brazil.
That was the extent of the interview. The official told Salvador in Portuguese and me in English that his visa was approved. The entire interview lasted less than 10 minutes.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
